I translated from russian wiki but wasnt sure, thanks :)

another name Bukeikhanov - but Kazak or turkmen call him "Ali Han Bökey han" or khan ,couldnt find picture. Names differ very much with translation.could be wrong!
I think he is related to Alash Orda troops or in that group, must be Kazakh. Who allied with cossacks on the Samara ragion

barbu wrote:... and I have updated the list by placing in italics the names of those for whom we've got photos and also explaining where in this thread their photos are.

It's hard to say, really, but a quick look at the list tells me we've got a big problem with White leaders.

Quick Arm Mexican, can you write an explanation of what you do with each photo? Maybe those of us who dabble :bonk: with PaintNet or Photoshop can follow the instructions and help you get things done faster. Like what filters and effects you use...

It's not really that hard. No special skills are needed.

What I do is the following:

1) Clear out the background of the original (either via a copy tool or a delete tool)

2) Adjust the coulours: I have given up on finding out via which tool the special look of RUS leader graphics was created, instead I use a simple formula which gets me close enough: Take a black and white add 50 red, 10 yellow and 20 contrast.

3) Create an Army.png file:
a) Scale your picture to the right size. (Just take the existing ones as example, I use an empty Army.png with markings to save time).

b) do some cosmetiques around the edges.

4) Create a Unit.png file:
a) Create an empty Unit.png or use mine. Its not perfect, but it serves its purpose.

b) Scale your picture to the right size.
c) Insert it.
d) Copy the frame above it.

5) Naming conventions:
Unit and Army png must share the same name:
example:
Unit.png: Unit_RED_Zhukov.png
Army.png: Army_RED_Zhukov.png
The model file only references the Unit.png in the line "Portrait =".

Semenov is already in the game. But please keep up the search the Siberian Whites are shamefully lacking in historical portraits.

By the way. I have uploaded a new version of my graphic pack which almost tripples the amount of leaders. I know shameful self-advertisement. ;)

Great job! However, we won't know which people you have graphics for from PhilTB, so the list I made is kinda useless right now. I guess we'll wait a bit and see.

I am sorry, I intended to make a list of the historical portraits I have already got (some of them from you, others from PhilThib and El Nino), just didn't get around to it. Here it is:

I included only a mdl number and a name and in some cases a comment. Which basically states that the portrait isn't as good as I would like it to be :( ; perhaps somebody can dig up something better.

- 960: Aaltonen (pencil drawing)
- 963: Svechnikov
- 983: Mezheninov
- 1013: Pyatakov
- 1022: Ivanov
- 1025: Leinonen (dates from the Cold War era and really dosn't fit with RUS)
- 1027: Samela
- 1029: Hasu
- 1030: Karjalainen (low qualoty family picture)
- 1040: Gikalo
- 1053: Solodukhin
- 1060: Lebedev
- 1065: Triapits (group portrait, borderline)
- 1138: Cherbachev
- 1183: Pkrovsky
- 1190: Vadbolsky
- 1191: Ivanovski
- 1193: Dobrovolsky (dates at least 20 years after RUS)
- 1195: Borovsky
- 1201: de Bode
- 1209: Shilling
- 1223: Kanin
- 1224: Sablin
- 1235: Sekretev

- 1339: Mikhailov
- 1340: Golovin
- 1344: Ossipov
- 1349: Onchokov
- 1354: OrazSirdar (group portrait, pretty bad)
- 1355: Junaid Khan (looks amazing, can't wait to do that one :) )
- 1370: Molchanov
- 1385: Lieven
- 1397: Marushevsky
- 1399: Elvergren
- 1400: Murusi
- 1531: Guderian
- 1545: Bermont-Avalov
- 1611: Puskar
- 1615: Zemitans
- 1634: Madamin-Bek
- 1635: Kurshir
- 1638: Aziz Khan
- 1640: Terpylo
- 1699: Nerel
- 1703: Pruneau
- 1708: Elmsley
- 1714: Campbell
- 1715: Malleson (in some strange uniform, group picture from a picnic?)
- 1716: Knox
- 1725: Stewart
- 1726: Graves
- 1745: Grigoriev
- 1749: Jugheli
- 1751: Cholokashvili

I know I have a lot of work ahead of me. But if I can keep up my current rate, I should be finished around Christmas. My next batch will be focusing on the Siberian Whites, they are lacking most in individual pictures.
However, most of all this list is proof of the great research done for this game and by people like you barbu!

Do you think you could update your list?

Edit: sorry barbu, the pictures from your last post aren't yet included in this list.

1. the photo:

Image

It's also below as an attachment.

2. No problem w/ the list, I have forgotten to remove the portraits made by you in the latest version :bonk: The list will be updated in a few minutes.

3. Don't say the word 'hire'... don't! I'm unemployed. :D

4. Grigoriev is 1645, not 1745.

5. I'm using the tips of our Russian friends: I find out how to spell their name in Russian and look for them on the Russian Wiki... a military uniform and a death date of 1919 or 1920 are good clues I'm onto the right guy :mdr: I can read the Cyrillic alphabet, which helps a lot because I can separate the right guy from the others by initials.

6. Thanks for the thank yous. I know I'm finding more photos than you can draw right now, but I don't want you to run out.

The list looks much better. After 1.2, twenty-three photos in total have been added, and out of 303 leaders for whom there are still generic images, we have found pictures of varying quality for about 70 of them  . From the other 200 or so, according to my OpenOffice spreadsheet ;) a third are reds, probably 100 are Whites and Don Cossacks, and the rest are non-Russians (for whom photos will be easy to find, the Polish side of the Internet is brimming with information on their war with the USSR).

It's a good start, and the images you're giving the community are brilliant. ;)

1687POLS. Haller.mdl

Stanislaw Haller (cousin of general Joseph Haller - but AGEOD gave same pic of J.Haller for both) - back then (since 1919) there were 3 general ranks
1) since Feb. 7th 1919 Chief of Staff of the Polish Army and
2) on Jan. 1st 1920 promoted to 1st General rank
3) on Sept. 1st 1920 promoted to 2nd General rank
...and due to his rich service he should have some abilities like his cousin but closer to his career which included position Chief of Staff of the Polish Army which is rather extraordinary position - so at least ability related with that would be nice :-)

Found profile photo only
Image

//source http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82aw_Haller_de_Hallenburg (wiki as always lol)
************************************************
************************************************

1667POLS. Skrzynski.mdl
SKRZYNSKI Stanislaw Wilhelm (1877-1935) Colonel of the Infantry (Commanding Infantry Division created for conquering/liberating from Germans and defending Pomerania/Pommern area which was named in 1919 "Pomeranian Shooters Division" renamed in 1920 to "16th Pomerania Division" //dunno how to translate it better :P)

His likeness:
Image
(couldn't find any other - but I rely on gov institution as it is less likely that they are wrong :P)

<there is something unusual or strange in his likeness / look of his face :P>
************************************************
************************************************

I assume that:
1664POLA. Listowski.mdl and
1680POLA. Listowski.mdl
must be in fact
Listowski Antoni (29 III 1865) - since (Jan 5th?) 1919 General of the 1st class/rank - he took over Brest from Germans and on March he replaced for a while J.K. Pilsudski and became Field Marshal/Supreme Commander of the Polish Armed Forces and on April 21st 1920 (seniority from April 1st) got promoted to 2nd class/rank General. From 26th May to end of June 1920 acting commander of the Ukrainian front (the photo I added must be from this period!)

Photo of Listowski Antoni:
Image
Image
Enter through here for enlarged picture http://www.audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/61500/08fc944b4a6c036b0b81e2287cf4d397/
from the left side of the photo Antoni Listowski ...and Semen Petlura! my oh my :-)

Listowski Józef (10 II 1863) - Lieutenant Colonel (photo not yet found <or no photo on the net> - this guy seems irrelevant I bet there were more remarkable Colonels out there ...he didn't even met Petlura like the other Listowski :P)

So the second Listowski (1680POLA. Listowski.mdl) could be replaced for example with this guy:

******General Tadeusz Rozwadowski**********
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tadeusz_Rozwadowski - overloaded with medals and was one of main commanders in that period (3rd class/rank General since 1916) :>

Photo of Tadeusz Rozwadowski:
Image
************************************************
************************************************

1661POLS. Majewski.mdl
Image
Majewski Stefan (10 VIII 1867) - General of the 2nd class/rank
He was dean/commander of Military School <General Staff School> in Warsaw a) Promoted to General 1st class/rank on Dec. 1918 and
b) on Apr. 21st 1920 promoted to General 2nd class/rank (seniority from Apr. 1st)
Leading 2 different armies from April till May and from May till July 1920 - It seems that he was called in emergency when Bolsheviks where closing to Warsaw (assuming from the photo due to limited mobility - he must have been like Trotsky moving his ass on train only as he has cool stats but when tracks end you can't move a muscle :D ) and after that he came back to his previous position and later moved on to other (in 1925 Leading Ministry of War)...

************************************************
************************************************

1674POLDojana-Surowki.mdl
should be 1674POLE Dojan-Surowko
<no photo found>
Dojan-Surówko Edward (27 XII 1894) - Since June 1st 1919 Major of the Infantry ...promoted to colonel in 1929
because of that I believe that he is irrelevant leader for the game time period - some other name could replace him at least one which can be found with some photo :D

************************************************
************************************************

one more thing
1666POLJ. Boleslaw seems to be some mistake first of all Boleslaw is a name(first name) like Boleslaw Chrobry king of Poland :P and there was no such commander with such name(surname) as far as I know & found.
Second issue with him is that it looks like J.K. Piłsudski photo - or some guy really similar in look :P (I am over 90% certain that the person on photo added by AGEOD is Pilsudski - compared with this photo, where he wears same uniform http://www.audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/12564/96a842d45e7badd737387e66cae38455/- guys mustache won't trick you!)

and you could use some pretier photo of Army_POL_Pilsudski.png - he's the MAN! but his photo isn't pretty :P
Here is the same photo which used AGEOD but with more chest visible:
Image
or profile photo:
Image

************************************************
************************************************
I also found that Robert Franciszek Walenty Lamezan de Salins (1685POLR. Lamezan-Salins):
a) Is not French (Ability0 = $French-Polish)- he is from Austrian family which had roots in France he married Polish woman and when enlisted to Polish army on Dec. 5th 1918 he declared himself as a Pole which was proved and enforced by his important diplomatic role given by the Polish Gov. later on (although - according to Austrian Registries he didn't spoke Polish at least at the time)
b) Was 1st class/rank General since Feb. 9th 1918 (with seniority from Nov. 1st 1917)
c) Was 2nd class/rank General since Jan 11th 1920 (with seniority from June 1st 1919)
d) I found some sexy photos of him:
http://www.audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/59347/18f0eefba433dea93bf1fec5987c538e/
http://www.audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/59346/18f0eefba433dea93bf1fec5987c538e/

************************************************
************************************************
I also found that 1658POLW. Iwaszkiewicz.mdl found by barbu isn't the right one - because this guy is a Colonel of the Polish Air Force since 1936 - but in 1919 he was low-rank officer commanding some air squadron fighting bolsheviks (major since 1924)

Now this is the correct one:
General Wacław Iwaszkiewicz (Wacław Iwaszkiewicz-Rudoszański on polish wiki - but I don't know where from is that 2nd part of name coming from :P) on photo:
Image
and on those two photos (the guy in uniform in the middle of the photo and hardly visible but this confirms that I am right)
http://audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/58897/h:438/
http://audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/58902/h:438/

His Rank:
a) on Oct 31st 1918 joins Polish Army as 1st class/rank General
b) on Oct 1st 1921 retired as 2nd class/rank General

************************************************
************************************************

Regarding 1677POLM. Karaszewicz-Tokarzewski - provided photo is from late 30's so isn't best choice ...unless there is no earlier photo (which I failed to find)
Second thing is that he became COLONEL in June 1919 and GENERAL in 1924
So he should be classified as colonel.

************************************************

Regarding Romer Jan Edward (J.E. Romer) (3 V 1869 - 5 III 1934)
Promoted on Feb. 6th 1918 to 1nd class/rank General (in Aus-Hun army)
Promoted on June 1st 1919 to 2nd class/rank General of the Polish Army

There seems to be also an issue related with J.E. Romer and E. Rommel - as both use same photo which is proper for E. Rommel only (moreover proper name is Juliusz Rommel so it is J. not E. right now he seems to be more like Erwin Rommel :P)

so here is Photo of J.E. Romer:
http://www.audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/60880/
2nd from the left on the 1st row (or 4th head from the left)

2nd Photo of J Romer:
Image
...jeez nice chest full of medals :P (I almost though that this is some kind of overloaded with badges soviet commander :D )

J. Rommel could also use some face-lift :P
here are 2 common photos of him:
semi-profile:
http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Plik:R%C3%B3mmel_Juliusz.jpg&filetimestamp=20060129160240
and straight-forward:
http://www.sww.w.szu.pl/postacie/post_polska/rommel_juliusz.jpg

--------------------------------------------------------------
************************************************
************************************************
here is the list of all generals from the period of WWI and POL-BOL war of 1920 (the line with: I wojna swiatowa i wojna polsko-bolszewicka)
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genera%C5%82owie_polscy#I_wojna_.C5.9Bwiatowa_i_wojna_polsko-bolszewicka

after collecting all the pics you might consider getting more officer into the game, here is link to the list of 36000 Polish officers to pick from (from Lieutenant to Field Marshal/Supreme Commander) from the period of 1918-1922, including name, rank, date of birth:
http://intelli.nazwa.pl/komarow/Archiwum/Lista_oficerow_1918_do_1922.pdf

...and here is the list of the Infantry Divisions Commanders in period 1919-1939 http://www.dws.org.pl/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=15859 (might be useful to add new high-ranked officers if needed)

Cheers!

I can't find a mdl file for Antonescu. It seems the graphic set wasn't used in the game.

I have uploaded V. 1.4. of this mod which is compatible with patch RUS 1.01.

The developpers have done fantastic work. I love how well balanced the game has become.

More details please. My beloved daughter Athena seems to perform reasonably well, but I need to know how she does with others players than me... ;)

I will try to provide you with my next save game.
When I wrote this remark, I had the rebalance of options and ressources in mind.
As concerns Athena, I haven't had any blunders on her part while playing with RC4 (never got around to RC 5). For an AI that is saying a lot! You did great work.
What I did notice is:
- The White Athena doesn't make much use of the Murmansk forces. I have never seen a serious attack South towards Petrograd. I am however not sure if forcing her into the offensive here is such a smart idea since it requires
a) coordination with the Northwestern and Finnish forces
b) building of supply depot(s)
to be successful. Not to insult your baby but I think this is more than she can handle.
- Sometimes badly mauled columns just stay put in the middle of nowhere for several turns.

For now, I've programmed AThena to be very passive at Murmansk. I'm waiting to get right the rest before experimenting Athena running in a frozen forest :D

The second point is yet something to improve, but AI is stuck with the fear to lose men because of attrition, when any human would rightly think how better is trying to save as much as possible...

I hope that devs will use some of this to improve RUS - especially fix slight mistakes I pinpointed in previous post :P

Thank you a lot. Right now I am working on the Ukrainians Wolf and Bolbochan, after that I will attack all those beautiful pictures of Polish generals you posted.

I uploaded a smaller update focusing on Ukrainian and Polish commanders the former faction is done except for one last commander. Hopefully, I will get some more factions to the point of completion in 2011.

Great piece of work! Looks perfect! Keep 'em comming!

Got only one side note regarding:

1665POLZheligovsky
should be
1665POLL. Zeligowski (Lucjan Zeligowski)

...as it needs 1st letter of name and Polish spelling not Russian-English(?) <but can't deny it sounds better the way it is now :P>

...also same applies to data within the files

:-)

--------------------------------------------------------------
************************************************

I also found photo of L. Zeligowski from the period of 1919-1922(from description of the picture) - but might be few years older (early 30's) from what I can notice.
http://audiovis.nac.gov.pl/obraz/61513/h:438/

While on currently used source-photo he has 3 general stars on his shoulders so it is no earlier than 1936 because on that year he has been promoted to 3rd rank general) ...sure the difference in this case is slight as this guy is old anyway :D but still you might want to update it in spare time when all major work is done

2nd photo:
http://www.conflicts.rem33.com/images/Poland/rebirth_files/image035.jpg
...and this photo might be even earlier than the first one - definitively younger look - so this must be early to mid 1920's

(haha sounds like reverse-facial recognition investigation CSI RUS? :>)
--------------------------------------------------------------
************************************************

Second thing is related with 1663POLK. Sosnkowski - current photo (ageod work) is from period of late 30's or maybe even WWII while I found the photo from the period of first half of 1920's - in this case difference is easily noticeable :-)

http://www.conflicts.rem33.com/images/Poland/rebirth_files/image036.jpg

and this one is from 1926: http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Plik:Sosnkowski4.jpg&filetimestamp=20080910112355

btw. there is also one major Bolshevik commander (Alexander Ilyich Yegorov) which seems to be forgotten by the RUS dev team (but I might be wrong) anyway here is link to wiki data:
