Drang Campaign fix for Partial Mobilization and Soviet tank division options

Tue Mar 13, 2012 7:15 pm

Playing the Drang Campaign made me realize that this excellent scenario lacked some bug fixing. Unfortunately, the ressource of the SEPRUS team as well as AGEOD are very limited. PhilThib is understandably too busy with other projects and Seb is working very hard on improving the Grand Campaign). Given this unfortunate situation, I started fixing bugged options myself.

The attached zip file contains the following fixes:

  1. 1st Soviet Tank Division option (the division didn't spawn because the event used the GER faction tag instead of the RED tag repeatedly)
  2. German Partial Mobilization option (the event now works every time rather than just the first time. Since I didn't change the string files, you will get a message "evt_GER_PartialMobilization", though. Still a small prize to pay. :)
  3. Kronprinz option : now the German Kronprinz actually spawns at Berlin (the event contained a wrong unit alias.
  4. Optional: I changed the conditions for breaking an alliance with the Southern White, this option previously only showed up in the diplomacy ledger if the Southern White held Rostov, Tzaritsyn and Sevastopol (which almost certainly won't happen in a Drang Campaign). On the downside my changes open up the possibility for some gamey moves (making an alliance, then immediately breaking it).
If you don't want this change, please don't use the included RUS Drang Options Diplomacy file!

Installation:

Just drop the files into your RUS\Events folder and allow overwriting the current ones.

Fix for Kronprinz option

Thu Mar 29, 2012 6:30 pm

I have found one more bugged option in the Drang Campaign: The Germans have the possibility to get the German Kronprinz as a field commander. Currently this option works only partially. The player gets the NM and VP boni associated with the option but the Kronprinz doesn't spawn. The reason for this is that the event uses a wrong unit alias ("uni_GER_Kronprinz3" instead of "uni_GER_Kronprinz").

I have updated the file attached to the first post in this thread it now contains a fix for this option as well.

I've got an uglier issue if you want to take a look at it. As Germany, you can ally with the Southern Whites. It says you should then be able to break the alliance and make them an enemy. The 2nd option never shows up. I think the logic for faction switching is pretty complicated, but maybe it's just another misspelling? I'm going to look around too, but I'm not very good at understanding this stuff.

Hi Pat,

I took a quick look at the WHI alliance events. Some of the script looks fishy to me. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's bugged, though. Am just an amateur at this. :)

If I have read the "Break alliance" event correctly, the option only shows if the Southern White own Sevastopol, Rostov and Tzaritsyn. Very weird conditions. I will run some test over the weekend and try if the option shows if this condition is changed.

Some tests later, I can confirm that the Break alliance option isn't bugged. Whether it shows up just depends on some very weird conditions. Namely the Southern White must own Sevastopol, Rostov and Tzaritsyn. I have included an optional file in my small collection of fixes that removes this condition.
Whether you want to use this is up to you. My changes open the field for some gamey moves (immediately breaking the alliance just to get a chance to bash the Southern White). On the other hand, this still costs 10 points of NM (for concluding the alliance in the first place), therefore having war with the Southern White comes at a cost.

One final word regard the Southern White: the alliance in itself is completely worthless. The German player doesn't get to control Wrangel's Army. All that happens is that the relation between the Central Powers and Southern White change from "neutral" to "coordial" (you can see the Southern White forces in detail, FOW is removed; also it seems to allow to get supply from their depots and use their railway network). Coordial relations is a very weird state of affairs.

I "fixed" another option. The new baltic division option won't work because the balts never get the ability to buy engineer replacements. I don't know how to add units or mess with the oob, so I deleted the engineer line in the events file and added 1 to the medium arty requirement since the cost of those 2 are similar. Not a very stylish solution but at least the option can work now. Do you know how to change the strings that describe the option in-game? I've never seen event or option descriptions anywhere when I've poked around.
