Fixed GHQ in campaign game

Sun Sep 27, 2015 1:56 pm

Hello.
I have started a campaign (side : reds) without waiting the first patch. I'm really impressed. Each Ageod game is unique and this is different from the others. I have new questions.

- Why are the GHQ fixed ? It is a totally new feature in the Ageod games. Does it represent the way red front leaders conduct operations ? Did they really never move out of an area (with the exception of Trotsky using a mobile headquarter carried by a train) ?
- Will these GHQ stay fixed during the whole war ? The red army will improve its command structure during the war.
- If a combat unit is attached to a GHQ, if a (red) corps is staked with the GHQ and if an enemy attacks the whole stack, will this attached combat unit intervene in the battle to support the corps that is attacked ?
- If a combat unit is attached to a GHQ, if a friendly (red) corps is in an adjacent hexagon and if an enemy attacks this corps , will this attached combat unit intervene in the battle to support the corps that is attacked ?
- These GHQ have an attached supply unit that is fixed too. How can the player use this supply unit that can't move at all ?
- If a GHQ is alone in an hexagon and is attacked, can the three star leader be killed or wounded ?

GHQ units are fixed in RUS Gold because :

- GHQ was not moving battlefields forces but big administrative and logistic centres installed in main towns and coordinating corps from the rears. Since AACW, i never liked the feature of Army GHQ with major leaders going in the battlefieds like corps leader when such high leaders never did this at this rank IRL.

- Besides this, there is an old engine problem with using GHQ force like Corps force on the fronts : when a GHQ force is not the single friendly force in a region, it will not perform the Attack orders. So in many situations, players didn't understand why their big main force leaded by a GHQ 3 star leader did not attack, or storm a towns, when they where given the order again and again during many turns. This problem wasn't solve when we did the Gold version and i was tired to explain the reasons of this problem in the forums. So that's why in RUS Gold the GHQ are locked forces in the rears, just here to allow the creation of corps 15 regions around, and your are fighting and build fronts with corps and not with GHQ in the frontline. That's it  .

NB : Trotsky GHQ in Moscow, like any other GHQ, is locked and not supposed to move. (if it is unlocked because of battle and moved out of the region, it will desappear and appear again in Moscow as soons as it is Red controlled. The Trotsky armored train is only a flavor unit, which allow to simulate the few personnal involvement of the Trotsky on the field, when he leave the GHQ in Moscow. But not as a GHQ unit. The Moscow GHQ (the administrative main staff and logistics of the Revolutionary Military Council) always staid in Moscow.

There will be locked for many turns. Later there will be unlocked, but this is just to allow the player to try to change a GHQ leader he don't like : he could move it out of the region, in order that it disappear like if it was overrunned by enemy forces. This way a player will have again the Global Option to build a new GHQ in that region and could hope to have an other GHQ leader.

If you have merge an GHQ force with a Corps force, then there is only one force and it defend all together. If you have a GHQ force (with combat units or even only artillerie inside) in a region and a corps force in a neighbouring region, then the locked GHQ force should most likely not help the corps force with the movement reserve feature if the corps is attacked in its neignboring region. But if it is the GHQ force which is attacked, the corps in the neighboring region should come to help it.

You can't use it outside the region it is locked, unless it get unlocked after a battle with an enemy. This bonus supply unit was put with the GHQ unit because if this last unit was alone, the designed and customized name of the Army GHQ forces don't display well.

Yes and no. Most of the time, the leader will re-appear somewhere as a 2 star corps leader. But sometimes it will not re-appear before few turns, and sometimes it will not re-appear at all because there is no 2 stars model for this leader and it could only appear again as 3 star GHQ leader when activating a "New GHQ in .... " Global Option.

It's "Not really and rather yes": He is told being killed in battle report, but he is instead like heavily wounded and has to rest somewhere. :)
