With previous titles in age engine there were auto-garrison feature protecting loyal cities, fortified structures in case of emergencies by raising militia or line inf. In Rus most of the structures are cities with no garrison in it. they can be captured with armored trains or cavalry units. In my game as Siberian whites I was able to capture 2 cities in 1 turn with Annenkov and a single partisan cavalry. Pokrovsk and Balakovo were the cities with a harbour. I was able to capture 3 red transport ships in the turn.

On the other hand, in our RoP PBEM, I just (re)captured one of your ungarrisoned cities with Luckner and his handful of hussars ;)

For RUS, I agree with your point. Both sides would easily gather an handful of voluunters to avoid the city being captured by 50 raiders.

I think it's ok: there are no auto-garrison for Reds had few weapons or ammos, and Whites had few men wanting to fight for.
So, players must chose were they put their weapons or their men: in some garrison or to the front...

I concur with this point. Introducing auto-garrison feature will seriously undermine the importance of "raiding operations" that played significant role in Russian Civil War. There were examples when they were decisive: in April 1920 all Azerbaijan was taken by four Red armoured trains acting on their own.

As far as I know, Azerbaijan and south transcacasus have an increasing red support in their own countries in 1920 and before. Eastern nations Commities were formed mainly from local Revolutionaries from Baskhirs,Tatars, azeri, armenian etc.. They formed their own red army.

In game turns I think loyalties shift from white to reds very fast until 1920's, that made it possible for the trains to capture the cities. Without the commites and support from population I dont think it would be that easy.

Especially port cities are defenseless and it is possible to capture ships with raiding.

Edit: Yes Krot, very true about the struggle of the class. They had big worker class and huge amount of oil production. Thats why all powers concentrated in that area of operation apart from the tactical location.

Don't forget that it was the war of classes after all. Baku due to its oil industry had very numerous and active pro-left proletariat. It does not deminish the fact that red trains entered rebellious Baku having fought their way from the border. On the way they defeated two Azeri armoured trains, captured five art. batteries and lots of POW. It demorolized Azeri army and led to the success of Bolsheviks in Baku.

This is a problem for the AI. Auto-garrison feature is also there as a speed bump helping the AI.
