Just for the sake of good communications have a look at two posts over at the Paradox forum.
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?p=11531353#post11531353
ashandresash:
"I've just read
that ageod's developing a Russian Civil War game, which
release is scheduled foro November the 7th! It's really amazing!
It's called "Revolution under the Siege". Could you have more information?
I picked information from here:
http://www.strategium-alliance.com/N...b12a116.0.html"
Fernando Torres:
"I'll publish a preview soon so you'll get much more informations.
The games itself is
based on RoP engine. The map is similar to WW1.
They have added an
air combat module along with some nice features like
armored trains and railroads, requisition in bolchevic provinces (the peasants might get mad and revolt), foreign expeditionnary corps, etc."
Regards

And where are the screenshots?
And the map, something like this?

Well RUS map looks much, much nicer.
It's larger, with Poland on it, more of central Russia, the Far East,

but a good chunk of the Transsiberian is represented with Out of the Map boxes, giving that apart from along the railroad, there was not much population further away from it.

OK, thanks
Rafiki is back, let's wait for the creation of the new game subforum. I suppose you will post more info then
Just a question, where did you get order of battle? And the smaller unit is?

Getting the OOB right was probably one of the most difficult tasks, and several people were involved there. Kudos to them !
As for the smaller unit, I wouldn't know. There is just too many different types !
I think we have broken a limit or two when we defined them, and that Pocus was obliged to tweak a variable or two for us.
There will be lot of different nationalities presented (Finns, Poles, White, Red, Green, ...), armored trains, early planes and tanks of different types, etc...

Yes, but the reference(s) for the OOB? For example any online?
I meant the smaller infantry unit: battalion, regiment, division,...
Green? Understand white and red, but green...
Sorry if they are too many questions, I suppose you cannot tell a lot right now
Edit: Oh I see, the Green were Ukrainian nationalists

The "Greens" were all the peasants who revolted during the RCW, especially after the split between the Bolcheviks and the SR, and during the grain requisitions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_armies
The biggest revolt was the Tambov Rebellion:

The main source was the Bolchaya Sovietskaya Entsiklopedia
But as we have the name of the divisions and the elite regiments, we don't have name for EVERY regiment or bataillon. For example for some Red army or independant or anarchists or green troops, we had to put "generic" names to fit the game. We don't have ALL the names like in AACW... but quite a good amount of them
By the way, the basic unit in the game is the division, composed of regiments.
The greens are independant, often peasants, rebels. The Ukrainians nationalists are an independant force, such as anarchists, balts, caucasians, etc.

russian revolution? I'm the rare kind of wargamer that doesn't really care about the historical subject as long as the game is good, but this is really a niche period...

Yes, but we are approaching dangerously to the not so niche thing called WW2

the spanish civil war is extremely close to WW2 and it's still undoubtly a very niche war (outside spain, of course).

It is a very interesting conflict, which has not been represented on the video wargame market for ages, if ever. I couldn't find any. I know there is a Mount & Blade (!) mod about the Russian Civil War, but that's all I know about.
In board game, this is quite a rate subject as well. I have found these ones when I was doing the research:
- Russian Civil War, SPI, James Dunnigan, 1976
- Red Star/White Eagle, GDW, Dave Williams, 1979
- Rossyia 1917, Azure Wish, F.S. Thomas, 1995
- REDS!, GMT, Ted Raicer, 2001
- Triumph of Chaos, Clash of Arms, D B Dockter, 2005
- Orel 1919, David Beaudlet, Vae Victis magazine #74, 2007
- Tsarytsine 1919, David Beaudlet, Canons en Carton, 2008
There are more than that, but most of them are quite confidential, and a lot are out of print...

This is great news! The Russian Revolution is a very interesting(and disturbing) period in history.
Alas, I fear that once the Paradox marketing team gets wind of this the name will change from "Revolution Under Siege" to "Mr. Red and Mr. White have a fight" in order to broaden the game's appeal to the more casual gamer.

oke:

The map looks like a mix of RoP and WW1 Gold?
The units look good to me. Pocus, you meant the portraits of the commanders? Are they finished?
Also regarding the interface, some more immersion besides the top left and the cannons?

Good God, first the rise of prussia, now the russian revolution. What a bore. There was a poll about what people would like to see from ageod, and this wasn't even on it. Talk about a niche game.

Great news! First CK II and now this.
I hardly know anything about this war, but I'm sure when I play the game my appetite for information will grow soon enough.
"Pride of Russia"?

If we were only doing games according to polls, the only wars that will ever be simulated would be Rome, Napoleon, and WW2.
You wouldn't even find the ACW in the top 3.
We think that the RCW is very similar, in many aspects, to the ACW

:
- Surprisingly, the fronts didn't freeze up like in the ww1.
- Cavalry still played an important role, that was completely neglected at the beginning by the Reds, until they lost enough battles to recognise it as a necessity.
- Trains and railroad transports were of the utmost importance, and were few and far between in most of Russia, like they were in the US of the ACW period.
- Population loyalty, support and morale, allowing you to keep your supply lines open, were battle-breakers.
- It was an ideological war to death, which will change the shape and ideology of a whole country (and even more, of the whole XXth century !) for ever.
There have been no PC wargame of the RCW at this level so far. If there was one population of gamers that could be interested in one, it can only be the AgeOD fans.
So here you go, we decided to be bold, and give it a try.

It will use the same kind of mechanisms than RoP, so you would be able to either have replacements, or to build new units.
In this regards, RoP and RUS are closer to AACW than BoA or NCP.
As for financing your war, here is were the context is very different in the RCW than during the ACW: Economy and production literally went down to 0 during the Russian Revolution. It's very hard to imagine, but the whole industrial complex of Russia completely collapse. So much so that labourers in factories, if they weren't conscripted, flee back to the countryside to try to toil an acre of land to get something to eat.
When I did some historical research, I learned that Petrograd lost 3/4 of its inhabitants (that's right 75% of the people !!!) between 1918 & 1920; Moscow population was divided by 2. This is terrible. You cannot have any kind of economy running in these conditions.
So most of the armaments wasn't produced during the war. So where did it come from ?
Well, the Reds seized what they could of the Tsarist Russia pre-war production, and the White did get all of the British surplus. All the armaments that the British produced for ww1, and that has become useless once the ww1 was over.
I could publish the numbers later on if people are interested.
