Is it possible to save the Imperial Family?

Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:51 pm

Sure, call me a romantic, but...I'd like to do it, if I can. :)

It would have been too much work to create all alternative events occuring after liberation of the tazr family.Could be an excellent mod, if someone is interested... :)

Let's see.

It's impossible to get units to stop the execution, so it would have to be a scenario premise.

Both White factions get asked whether to support him (game choice).

If a faction says no: -2 NM, +10 conscripts and then nothing else happens to them.

If a faction says yes: no consequences at the time the choice is made, but every other turn the following event plays:
"Your support of the Czar is changing the population's attitude towards you."
Effects: one, two, three or all four of the following (picked at random):

-2 conscripts
+ 10 th. rubles from Allies
-1 NM
+3 NM

[If both factions say no, then Czar flees for France. -4 NM for both White factions for not supporting the Czar]

[If both factions say yes, a one-time gift of 100 th. rubles from the Allies for presenting a common front, and the event above plays for both of them every other turn].

There are many other options...
- the Tsar making (or not) a proclamation concerning the future of the country;
- the Tsar dying, and the young Tsesarevitch taking control (lots of NM for whites)
- the Tsarina selling her jewelry for the White cause (+ NM, +1 th. rubles)
- and nasty things :D

How about it? Is anybody (else) interested?

Actually, survival (and subsequent political activity) of the Royal Family would mean splitting the Whites into two hostile camps - the monarchists (Drozdovsky, later Wrangel in the lead) and the democrats (Denikin and his General Staff circle). Also, the SR were very influental in Siberia, and these were no less hostile to monarchy than Bolsheviks themselves.
Can be an intersting mod indeed.

Would that mean 4 white factions? A royalist southern white, a democratic (or republican?) southern white, a royalist siberian white and a democratic siberian white fraction?

It would sure make things interesting for the white side.... :)

It would be really cool if this mod materializes one day! Because I also had thought I could liberate the Czar ..

Some very good ideas by barbu.

In any case I think that support for the Czar should result in more allied help (because the Czar in turn would continue the war against Germany, and that was ALL the Allies cared for).

On the other hand the Czar was really not popular any more, so there may have been practically no way to reinstate him, I am sure the history experts can clarify this situation for us. Perhaps an alternative solution involving the Czarevitch was possible? But well, a country in a Civil War cannot be ruled by a sickly child.

No offense, Bertram, but it would make things very complicated in terms of:

1) design and
2) play.

I would personally "vote" for having three factions: 1) monarchists; 2) anti-Czar democrats; 3) anti-Czar bolsheviks. Everybody would be fighting everybody else, no "White Allies" or anything :D

Alternatively, we could reshuffle everything and just have 2 factions:
1) pro-Czar
2) anti-Czar.

Agree, in a horrible way the death of the Tsar probably helped to unify the Whites into a wider Anti-bolshevik movement (from the Socialist to the Monarchists).
With the Tsar alive it would have created a lot of additional tension among the Whites.

I see a lot a possible interesting mods in the game though.
What about the Fanny Kaplan attempt to murder Lenin in 1918, it was very close...With Lenin dead who would lead? Trotsky ?...

Got an idea. The Tsar should travel around. Not as a unit, just in the message log of the faction supporting him. Every 4 turns you would see this:

"Our most beloved Tsar ( :D ) has spoken to the people of X today".

X = city or region owned by Tsar-supporting faction.

Result: +2 conscript or something like that.

I actually see this develop into a completely new fictional campaign, in which Russia is be split in 3 camps. The monarchists and the anti monarchists and the bolshevists. In the end I'd guess the monarchists and anti-monarchists would have cooperated against the Reds, with the question of the Czar remaining open, until the common enemy is defeated.

But perhaps it was really so that each side was glad when the Czar was shot ....
