Non-authentic music in RUS

Thu Nov 25, 2010 4:33 pm

Well, first of all, the soundtrack is absolutely great. Everything that should be there is there.
But what about the tracks that shouldn't? "Slavyanka" is in it's post-WWII variant, complete with the part about red heroes who took Berlin in 1945. "The Three Crewmen" is about soviet-japanese conflict of Halhin Gol in 1939. "Katusha" is also a WWII song.
It's not a big deal, of course, but sounds really weird for russian-speaking players.

Can you Russians recommend Civil War era music then? Is there anything on Amazon which is worth purchasing?

Well, Katusha is pretty much ok. Tri Tankista is a different story, since it is all about tanks fighting evil imperialist samurai with fire and steel. As for Slavyanka, it can be easily replaced with any other variant - "Vstan za veru", or the red one.

Da, da, I didn't even notice 3 Tankists was there, that one is out of place certainly. But best song on soundtrack is about berry garden ;)

I have bias but I say most well known Russian/Soviet music is worth hearing. I guess best way is find list of songs on CD and youtube search them, almost all songs are found there.

I don't know about particular music (the essantials are in RUS soundtrack already, anyway), but I'd recommend two ensembles - Valaam monastery choir and "Kazachi Krug". Both do old folk songs, marches an hymns, many of which were well-liked and frequently sung by the Whites.

A bit of sovietpunk never hurts :D Besides, THIS one is 100% authentic.

On the White side (or Cossack) you could play these tunes and they would sound much more historical...

Ne dlya menya (Not for me),
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIWVItFfPXA&feature=related

Kogda my byli na voine (When we were at war)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecAO8bFZpPA&feature=related

Proshanye Slavianky (Farewell to the Slavs)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo2mo9sV8Z0&feature=related

Lyubo bratsi, lyubo (Love brother, love)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYqyO-EL7T8&feature=related

All classical songs from WWI and the Civil War...some were sang by different sides actually with different lyrics!

I can not believe Grazhdanskaya Oborona did not make it on to the soundtrack.

An amazing version of that Cossack song "Lyubo bratsi, lyubo bratsi jit" ("Love, brother, love life")

Good luck trying to focus on micro-managing your budget while that song is playing in the background :)

I think this song must be understood lyrics to truly appreciate it. I will try to translate, though English not perfect.

As for the black Erek
As for the grozny Terek
There were 40,000 horses on the field
The beaches were covered with hundreds of chopped
And shot people

Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
For us do not grieve
Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
For us do not grieve

And the first bullet, the first bullet
And the first bullet in the leg, a hurt horse
A second bullet, and the second bullet
A second bullet in the heart of me

Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
For us do not grieve
Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
For us do not grieve

My hair blonde, my eyes are light
Grass, weeds so overgrown with sage,
My bones are white, my heart is bold
crows smash on the steppe

Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
For us do not grieve
Enjoy, brothers, enjoy, enjoy, live
with our general head first.

*I know not perfect I have troubles translating songs and poetry

Many revolution-era songs (for the Red army) can be found and downloaded here http://www.sovmusic.ru/english/index.php

http://www.sovmusic.ru/english/list.php?part=1&gold=yes&category=revolut

Personally i would particularly recommend the song "We are the Red Cavalry" to be included into the game play list.

I had no part in selecting the music for the soundtrack, and though I can understand that music from outside the period might be a bit "misplaced", the most important things must surely be that the music suits the style and feel of the game?

As an example of what didn't make the cut, there is the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6FUR_nhGX8 :D

It's not quite from the time period, and it may be a little bit different in feel from the rest of the soundtrack, but wouldn't it have been nice if it was included? ;)

:D This song in the 70th had lyrics but they were banned by government so he sang it with nonsense. It originally talked about him having love with woman with non Soviet name 1000 kilometers away from where he was.

You Russians should compile a music mod, I am all for it.

Especially because i would like a different theme for the Whites. It's a bit strange (but not important either) to hear the International if you actually fight the Bolsheviki.

In any case this russian music is incredibly athmospheric, and I can't get several tunes out of my head. There should be more!

I just found one more: Когда мы были на войне - when we were in war

I think this is the best song to come out of 2nd world war, but there is no way it belongs in civil war soundtrack. It specifically mentions German invaders, calls them rapists and murderers and insists the country come together and 'put a bullet in the forehead of all rotten fascist scum'

I know, and I understand some of the lines. Still love it. Because it so perfectly embodies the resolution with which the Russians fought this war.

Anyway, I can mod it in for myself.

Definitely agree with the idea of a mod and a separate music theme depending if you play the Reds or the Whites...I had to turn off the music on my game after hearing the Internationale for the 3rd time in 10mn...

Thanks for bringing the world this game, Cat Lord. I've been waiting for a Russian Revolution game for a very, very, very long time.

This sounds kinda picky. It's like complaining that the Volga River Boatman song shouldn't be included because there are more rivers in Russia and it discriminates against them.
