Just three little questions :
Why use of "standard attrition" and not the "historical" one ?
Is there a compatibility problem with different versions of Gray quickfixes used with the 1.13b ?
Just to be sure, is our host Rebelcat or Longhairedlout ? or just my opponent ?

Yeah, I'm not understanding the hosting line either. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who didn't get it. :)

1"Historical attrition" was considered too harsh, i.e. ahistorical, by some players in the first tournament, so we we went with standard. That carried over to this one.
2I'm not sure. We'll have to inquire with him.
3The host will be a neutral third party. You need to e-mail both Rebelcat and Longhairedlout to figure out which one wants to do it. You should also contact your opponent just to make sure everyone's on the same page.

Feel free to throw anymore questions.

How are hosts choosen?
Does this mean that the tournament players must host other groups' games? For example, I could host a game played by Banks6060 and Redemmer, while Redeemer hosts a match between DarthMath and biggp07? Or do we need to use non tournament people as host? Such as Soundoff or maybe Queeen AM?

Thanks for your answers, Daxil.
I asked for the 2) because I have a PBEM in 1.13 quickfix2 and don't want to lose it if we have to change the version.

No, you should host only those on the row directly adjacent to you. In your case Gustfire and vonRocko. In some cases we may need you to host other matches too, but this is how we'll start.

NP, I'm checking with Gray now. If they're both 1.13b I'd assume they'd be compatible, but we'll see.

Habeus Corpus

Thu May 14, 2009 6:16 pm

Do not use Habeus Corpus unless you want your points affected. It makes points either freeze or go backwards in that state. This is an official warning, so if someone does it they can't feign ignorance.

Very interesting -- My current PBEM opponent (who shall remain nameless unless he chooses to step forth ;) ) is a challenger in the tournament and a formidable opponent -- so I shall be watching closely :)

You're right for your opponent. That's a good start !! ;)
You must ask to Bertram or Stegosarus Army to host your games.
Good luck for the tournament.

Just got clarification from Gray on the patch issue. The quick fixes are compatible with vanilla. If you want the benefits of the quick fixes you'll want to update "before" your match starts. Apparently 1.14 will release in about 2 weeks so for rnd 2 we should all have the same versions.

Hosting

Fri May 15, 2009 4:15 pm

Do the two opponents share hosting duties, or does one player host both games, in my case, for Jim-NC and Jabberwock?

You should probably have one of you hosting both for consistency.

Gustfire/Tagwyn,
I am hosting, and have sent you your proper 1st turns (I hope). ;)

From what I understand, the Far West scenario won't be in the next patch. Perhaps you can pick an alternate scenario or stick with 1.13b till the 62 West scenario matchups.

"Far West" won't be in the next release? I'm sorry to hear this. IMHO, it's one of the finest scenarios in the game. It's somewhat like a shock course in logistics. For what my opinion is worth, I recommend that we stick with 13b until completion of both the preliminary and first round.

On a different matter...
I'm hosting for PascalB and Spharv2, and I've never hosted for anyone before. Is it possible for me to set a different password for each of them, somehow?

I'd really like to do this, and it has absolutely nothing to do with any question of trust or honor. It seems to me that the chance of the host accidentally sending the wrong file to the wrong person is something that will happen, in this tournament... especially with two games being played simultaneously. It would be a shame for a turn to be compromised, simply because someone accidentally opened their opponents position because it was mistakenly sent to them.

If someone could provide a mini-tutorial in this thread about passwords, I think it would be appreciated by more people than just me. ;)

Thanks in advance, for any response.

If you really wanted to do it that way - as far as I'm aware - the easiest way would be to install the game twice. Although you could also go in and change the password under options: compression each time you received a turn. Good idea to bring up with the programmers - the ability to store two passwords for simultaneous games..

I dont think you need to set a password. Under what I'd consider to be 'normal' PBEM play where the host is actually playing one side the non host sets their own password so that the host cannot open up the opponents file. So perhaps all that needs to happen is for both players to set their own passwords.

Dont use compressed files, just zip them afterwards. No password needed. With a host the player only gets his own turn, he can not "cheat" in any way.
