Army question.

Sat Jan 18, 2014 5:00 pm

In the Grand Campaign what are the number of armies allowed for each side? Playing Prussia I couldn't go above 4 armies. It was early game but I didn't try later to see if the number allowed would rise. I'm currently playing the Austria Coalition so I'm curious as to how many they are allowed.
Thanks for any info.

I think its more limited by the number of promoted commanders - as the war goes on you can actually have too many armies ... remember that corps of separate armies do not mutually support.

At the start with France you have 2 valid army commanders and with Austria 3 ... one of the Austrians is a HRE commander so you can use them to solve command problems with the Bavarians et al. Russia has 1.

However over time, some of your corps commanders can be promoted but I'd be cautious about automatically forming them into armies. Ideally you want 1, no more than 2 armies in a given theatre.
