Blockades

Some question for everyone:
1) Are blockades possible in this game?
2) Do they prevent trade transactions in and out of the country?
3) Do they stop supplies being sent around the world?
4) Do effects only apply if you blockade all ports of a country's national soil?
Thanks.

They are possible.
I know that they do not prevent trade (we were able to trade with the CSA even though all ports were blockaded by the Union in our MP game).
Don't know about if or how much they stop supply.

Thanks.
I don't think this type of warfare was common in 19th century - apart from CSA of course - so it is just out of interest. Somehow I don't think I will have the time to play through to WWI.

Blockades will definitely not stop supplies or hit replacement unless we're talking about siege and blockade in a city. In case of a city with port, in order to choke the city you need to besiege and blockade it from the sea. Otherwise the regions are considered "too large" to be blockaded. HOWEVER, I am not entirely sure if this is 100% true. Remember that supplies and ammo propagate from the furthest point of the chain (depot) three regions away. This means that in theory, if you blockade a small island from all its sides (say Ireland) you could stop all incoming supply propagation (as if it was yellow in the supply filter view).
