A tricky situation...

Mon Oct 08, 2012 5:00 pm

Hello again,

The Crimean war ended a year ago and I do not know what happened to the 30,000 Russians who occupied Freetown but after the war they were not there. A rebel army of natives then spawned (power 56) and captured the defenceless region. I have tried retaking it (several times) with marine brigades and naval bombardments but the marines were literally wiped out. :( I think that this was due to the fact that the rebels have lots of artillery, possibly from looting the Russians. I have been unable to get passage/supply rights from Liberia or Boffa - they don't reply.

1) Any suggestions as to how to get back this region?

2) Unrelated, but do AI countries ever build structures in your regions if you make a commercial agreement with them?

Thanks.

1. A larger force? Landing on the shore gives you a large penalty, and the enemy a large bonus. You will need more troops to push him off the beaches. If you want passage/supply rights, you will need to soften them up first. Try "Promise Local Support", and give them passage/supply rights. They will be friendlier to you (higher relations score), and you can then try to request things.

2. Not that I have seen.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any idea whether it's worth waiting for muzzle-loading rifles to finish being researched? I would imagine that a couple of marine brigades with rifles could defeat spear-wielding warriors, even with some cannons.

I would send a large force. Those warriors have muskets along with spears, and a lot of the combat will take place at range zero, where the spears and muskets will be effective, due to the terrain. I ended up building a rapid response force of two marine divisions, with a good offensive leader. The rebels always avoided combat when I attacked a coastal province with this force, which enabled me to retake the province.
