Heavy HQ bug in 1.3?

I believe there is some bug with heavy HQs. When a stack contains a heavy HQ of some sort (elite infanty, heavy infanty, heavy cav - range 8), combat only occurs at range 0. It seems to go directly to assault with 0 ranged hits every time. Unless there is something I am missing, this is a pretty annoying bug as these units are essentially worthless.

How did you even see the actions? It flies by so quickly.

Will do. I should get them to you within a few days. I have to find where I backed up my PON saves and what little free time I had this weekend was taken up by AJE :)

After a turn, I view the battle report for any major battles. I noticed that there were 0 ranged hits in all of these battles and when I moused over the 'range opened fire' icon, it was 0 each time. Separating the infantry corp from the heavy infantry corp would produce a "normal" battle (with appropriate ranged engagement), while engaging with heavy infantry alone or combined in a stack produced the described results.

Excuse me, what was the weather like in these battles? When there is a blizzard forces close by before opening fire, essentially having all battles at "assault range".

The weather at the time of the battle was listed as 'rain', the terrain steppes.

I started a new Grand Campaign as Russia and noticed that this issue still occurs in the latest non-beta version. It is easy to reproduce: simply build infantry corps H, guards corps, or a heavy cavalry corps then maneuver a stack containing one of these elements near an enemy and engage. Reload the turn, remove unit with the heavy hq (this appears to be the common element) and re-fight the battle. This behavior occurs in fair weather, so I don't think that plays a role. I've only played a 1850 Grand Campaign as Russia so I don't know if this could be nation and/or tech level specific.

I found out a similar bug, but only with the 1870 HQs, not the 1850 models... but checking it out, Blackjack is most likely right.

Try the following: put those files inside GameData/Models (accept overwrites). Remove the file named Models.Cached

Run the game again, the issue should disappear...

Not sure what files you are referring to, I don't see any attachments or links in the post. I'm thrilled that you may have a quick fix for this, just let me know the procedure and I will give it a shot and let you know the results. Appreciate the help.

Philippe, would you please consider posting a quickfix for this? Some of us are terrible at moving files around, or even finding them, few worse than me. Yet we still love the game and want it to work well.

I know you are busy, but this is a huge issue, and I have noticed this myself. Thank you for considering this request, and I understand if you are too busy.

But it should be fixed in the next patch, if a quickfix is not possible.

Philippe, when can we expect this hotfix? I am going to have to fight a major war soon, and most of my corps have heavy headquarters.

* Open GameData/Models
* remove Models.Cached file
* copy the content of the zip inside (accept overwrites)

Friends, I am overjoyed to tell you that the hotfix to this bug works!

My Guards and heavy corps performed magnificently against those pesky Austrians and their doom stack, firing at long and medium ranges with no problem.
