When does the Crimean war start and is it necessary?

Hello again.

Playing as Great Britain, I have seen a few scripted messages about the situation in Eastern Europe. Both myself and France have been 'given' defensive treaties with the Ottoman Empire, on whom the Russians have just declared war.

1) Will war between GB and Russia start by itself or do I have to declare it manually?

2) If I declare war will France join in too (commit herself fully like what happened historically)?

3) What is there to gain/lose in this war? This is my first AGEOD game and I would like to know if taking on Russia, as a beginner, is practical/suicidal.

4) If you fight the Russians with the Light Brigade in your army, do they get destroyed in a foolish charge?

Thanks in advance

1. You must declare war manually.
2. Maybe. It's the AI, so it may or may not.
3. Prestige can be won/lost. If you don't declare war after Russia declares war on Turkey, then you lose prestige for sure.
4. Don't know if that is a scripted event or not.

Wasting British troops is the player's responsibility. The primary force was British anyway -you can get prestige, lots of experience for commanders and troops, and gains in national morale from thrashing the Russians. Bear in mind there are a lot of them.

Thanks. War it shall be gentlemen.
