When does Japan get the ability to build railroads and factories?
I'm playing as them, I'm like 1 year and a half into the game and I can't build them. Anyone knows?

1855 in MP and still haven't got them. There should probably be an event or technology first.

I didn't see any technology about them
That's why I'm asking... Some people said that by 1958 they had railways everywhere...
Not that that is what I want... But just curious.

Technology will come slowly to Japan..;most will be there by the mid 1860's, not much before...the Bonin War must have occurred and the new Emperor (Meiji) be here

Technologies appear as they get known. And then you have to research/invent them. If you don't see it, it means you are way behind for the moment. Patience and perhaps some state contribution (extra research funds) to previous similar techs.
I wonder if after the Meijin restoration Japan becomes from Backward a Progressive country. I think it's the only way to catch up with the other major nations.

I dont ask anyone to read history books and i dont take take Hollywood as a good source, but actually, I WONDER IF ANYONE HERE WATCHED
THE LAST SAMURAI
Kensai, part of the development of japan is scripted. AFTER the Meiji restauration you have set free techs and much more possibilities to develop the country...
we dont want Japan to sink Mr. Perry, do we?

After installing patch 1.02 I started a new Japan game to see how the new patch works. In 1853 I got the technology "industrial revolution", without need to reseach it, and so I received a lot of new structures. Few month later I got the technology "early railroads", again, without need to research it.
Structures are a bit more expensive and need longer to build now, but I think, in the 1860's, Japan is again fully industrialized, like in previous patches.

Tech should come in the 1850's and 1860's, depending on how it progresses

right, its depending on the progress. everything in PON has positive and negative limits in the script and the events.
but having some of the techs before end of 1850s/early 1860s and the structures in use far before this time, is like having the American Civil War in end 1858... a nasty side effect.
Every player has to decide how to deal with this.
As US i did not exploit such early advantage, but run into the same problems like the games i played before when i did.

What does this "set free techs" mean? I'm in 1855 and already can choose some techs to invest extra with Japan. I just hope that with the new Emperor I finally get the Progressive research stance to cover the lost ground of the first two decades.
