Sea Transportation

Can anyone please tell me where you can see (ie what stat) the size of army a transport ship can transport?

If you mouse over the transport squadron, you'll see a number that says transport capacity.
Each ground unit has a number called weight.
So, capacity is amount of weight it can carry.

Pity at start of game Belgium gets a transport to carry 10 and the colonial force is 11

Build sea transports. Usually they can carry 40 weight. If you can't see them in the unit rooster, perhaps you don't have the required tech, or maybe it is hardcoded so that you can't build them until later...

if you can't build transport unit try to raise the force pool in the option to see if you have the tech needed...

I find the tech tree is uninformative about what is needed for particular units. Do you know where in the files to find which techs are needed for transports?

Concerning Belgium the solution is simply to get some replacements. It's transport fleet is way under strength at start, you just have to build it up. Just remember that in times of war you may not want to risk shipping troops overseas as you have absolutely nothing to protect the transports...
