12 Turns = Goal?

So I'm learning the game by playing the demo (as the Americans) and was wondering what would be a good goal(s) to work towards in just 12 turns to help learn the game? I know colonization is out.

Getting the hang of the trading system and maybe some of the colonization aspects. More than that is ambitious .

I'd say that my main goal was to learn the mechanics.

I will have another go as the British, better to master the hardest nation first then work my way down .
