What operating system do you have?
It seems that there is a problem with your DirectX.
Get it here and try again:

Most of DirectX DLL can now be retrieved from the web easily... so if you have a missing DLL, just type it in Google, and then place it in the directory of the game wanting it... should run.

It happens to me also (still using Windows XP)
But as it has been explained above, its easy to fix.
Just get the missing dll from some dll website like the one Carnium links, and drop the file on the game installation folder.

No !
You should NEVER download individual dll files
. It is a basic rule of security in the net, the dll websites are unsafe.
The safe and good way is to download the latest directx from microsoft (
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en).
Even though it is always directx 9.0c, Microsoft sometimes updates the files.
Regards
(PS: Updating or installing directx 9.0c is necessary to some games, even if you are running windows 7 with directx 11. It's OK to install both versions of directx.)

Sorry for bothering again, but I still can't get the demo to run on my system.
Always getting the following message:
Erreur d'application
---------------------------
Exception EAccessViolation dans le module PONDEMO.exe dans 00102680. Violation d'accès à l'adresse 00502680 dans le module 'PONDEMO.exe'. Lecture de l'adresse 00000004.
---------------------------
The message comes up shortly after starting the demo (when the black Paradox-screens switches over to the PoN-screen with the two flagged PoN logo.
My system is:
Windows 7, 64 bit (Home Premium Version 6.1), 4 GB RAM, Dirext X 11
Video card: Nvidia Geforce 310 (latest drivers installed)
Tried to start the game with admin-rights and different compatibility modes - nothing worked - always the same message appeared.
Any help is highly appreciated
Thank you and
cheers,
CT

BTW: I'm running ACW and WW1 on the same machine -without any problems

Ok - just stumbled accross the thread in the Paradox-Forum. So I deinstalled the game and installed it into another directory. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem for me.
I noticed that there is a file called "!Profiler0", which reports the following:
14:52:37 (Reporting) TFileParser.MakeAliases 30925 Aliases loaded, out of 58 files
Again many thanks for helping!!!

Wow... sometime I wonder if Windows is not inhabited by leprechauns and suchlike ... you do something and another thing loosely related is fixed.

Yes, sometimes to get my computer to load up something I have to rub my stomach in a counter-clockwize direction and pat my head at the same time.

Well I know how to maintain my PC so I have no issues

.
But of course, when I start my Ipad I keep marvelling at the speed it starts up.
