As further entries are posted, this thread will be updated with links to them. We won't be reposting the diary itself here, though, but seeing as it is easily accessible at P'dox, I'm sure the good people of these forums will be able to enjoy them through the wonders of Internet linking :)

Amazing. Can't wait to try the ACW (specially with that new amphibious AI) and the WW1.

You must be careful, though, because PON may well turn out to be the last strategy game we will ever need - and you may be out of work afterwards :neener: :D

It can be slightly longer, sorry. But in the end, you'll be happy :)

I still remember the glorious days when VoN would be released in 2010. :)

Now I am extra sad that I was not selected as a beta tester!

If the game is nearly as great as Rise of Prussia, will be my favourite (or second one, of course).

Pride of Nations will present you with much more challenges than ROP also, simply because it is delving into much more than the military. We hope you'll like it.

Bad boy, AgeOD, bad boy indeed. Just when I'll need to finish all my dissertations and study for the exams, you are going to release this curse upon humanity. How shall I ever be able to get any sleep? I'll fall asleep during turn resolution and wake up in the morning. How adding some peaceful, calming music when the game no longer detects mouse movement for a certain period. That would really be helpful. ;)

Speaking of which, perhaps a small teaser of the music? AgeOD games always have very good music and I am interested which way you went with the time period (marches, romantic etc.)

I was wondering about the same thing for some time now. My vote goes to Brahms. If someone embodies the late 19th century, it's him. Now to crack open my collection and see what would go well with a military game...

Proper English Translation

Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:18 pm

I sure hope that PoN has a better job of proofreading done on it than NCP had. I noticed in the one picture of Russia (from PoN dev diary #9) that in the lines of news there were two examples of poor English translation. A country buys "from" another nation and sells "to" another nation, not "bought to". Nothing like lots of spelling and grammar mistakes to make a product look less than professional and it makes one wonder if the spelling has many problems what other more important features have problems.

I also hope that the beta testing effort for PoN is far better than NCP. Too many events that didn't work or an important feature like entrenchment turned off in NCP. Nice that AGEOD is still doing patches for older games to correct problems years after release but these really should be squared away sooner.

My biggest concern about buying more recent AGEOD games comes down to a lack of proper quality control. Games are suposed to be fun and getting frustrated by features that don't work as advertised is not fun. :bonk:

Thoughts on PoN

Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:40 pm

PoN sure looks like an ambitious project. I sure hope that the end product matches the hype as it could be a really interesting game to play. I really enjoy the political and economic aspects of games like PoN.

I figure that a grand campaign is in order since some players wouldn't buy it without one. However I think it would be a mistake to alter the time aspect of the turn, keep it consistent for all scenarios or the grand campaign.

One feature of AGE engine games is that I like the ability to simply turn off the AI and play solo hotseat. I hope that in PoN we can turn off the AI and play the 8 playable nations just like we can play the two sides in AGE engine games. Looks like we're stuck with the AI controlling the many minor nations but that seems unavoidable. With a grand campaign game of 1680 bimonthly turns I can just imagine the mess the AI will make of those minor nations and even greater problems if the AI controls major nations.

I like the approach to economics but I think that players will be able to "cheat" the system by going to the resources file to see where resources are so that they can maximize the chances of prospecting teams finding those hidden resources. What would be more fun is having the ability to also have random resources so that we can have the true mystery of finding resources the old fashioned way, by actually hunting for them without being able to read a list or write them down as games are played.

This is an interesting point, just like the Spheres of Influence concept:

Also, for people who would prefer a more open game, there is always the possibility to check the 'No SOI penalty' option. This is our way to please both types of players.

We could have a 'Random resources' option...

We have considered adding slightly random resources, but this is not our priority right now. But this is on our mind...
