We were indeed mostly on vacation :)

As long as it helps the game sell more, it is good. And as Susana said, it is done to help publishers sell the game more broadly. If you prefer to have the Vainglory splash screen when you load up your personal copy, there will be no problem to post in the ageod forum the previous graphics for your own satisfaction and pleasure :neener:

Je comprends, mais franchement Pride of Nations c'est archi-nul comme nom.

Vainglory était vraiment plus subtil...dommage

On peut vraiment pas avoir un sens plus opposé entre les deux titres...

'Pride of Nations: The Vainglory of Man' - might please some of the guys who prefered the old title.

'Pride of Nations: The Struggle for Empire' - suits the era but not very inspiring?

I don't really think that the name of a game will sell more or less copies unles it's a sequel (think EUs and even the awful Empire:Total War). The important part of the name for this game will be the AGEOD in front of the title that signifies quality to those that play this type of game - if Paradox were to drop that it would be a big mistake.

How about Vainglory of Nations.

Or Pride of America only for the US version of the game.

Seriously, Pride of Nations is a Liberace gay title.

Hey, that's pretty good! :)

It's slightly verbose, but anything is better than the uninspiring Pride of Nations.

It's way too long, but yeah it's better than the uber anodyne Pride of Nations.

I must say, I am not at all surprised by the action took by Paradox (a better name has not been chosen for a computer company selling itself like it cares for the end user since gaming exists. Still better than SEGA, EA, UbiSoft or CA and many, many others). They belly well know what niche will buy AgeOD games and that's us, the users and visitors of these fine forums. I must agree with those before me, when I repeat their eternal words of wisdom, by saying that Pride of Nations is not a name which will attract the customers AgeOD seeks. Every nation is prideful, that's it's nature and even though the destructive potential was not seen in its fullest until the 20th century, it is still stupid to claim a nation as prideful as a selling point. Vainglory on the other hands, presents us with a historical period, when nationalism was in its early days and growing, leading to the greatest and most destructive, in economic, social, cultural and other forms, that is, the First World War.

At the risk of sounding vulgar, a Pride of Nations is a prostitute you pay for a BJ in a dark alley in the bad part of town and whom you forget the next morning. A Vainglory of Nations is a hataera with whom you spend the night, caressing both the senses and the intellect. That's what we want and that's what we will get, even if named after a cheap hooker.

If that is the final decision, then the comprise presented by both Phillipes is acceptable, if Paradox doesn't decide to do another number on us fans.

Hm, for some reason "Pride of Nations" reminds me a bit of Nation's Pride ...

Now I know what bothered me all the time! It was always there, but I couldn't think of it. Thanks for this post, syt. It's the "Pride" in "Pride of Nations".

Paradaox should seriously overthink this title, because "pride" is quite often used by rightwing organizations. You certainly don't want to have your game connected to Nazis.

Just do a google search with "white pride" and you know what I mean.

We believe it's a more approachable name from a sales perspective and we want to make sure we expand the existing gamer base for this game. Kind regards

From my experience this is, plain and simply, bullshit, and it's the reason why people were concerned that the Paradox may not be only good news.

What other decision have there been to make the game more "approachable"?

There is no need to stat bashing Paradox... you will not get anything positive out of that.

I apologize for my wording. And I agree that bashing Paradox is pointless. It's just a pity, for Vainglory of Nations was such an intelligent, fitting name.

I agree completely. When I first saw the title I had to look-and I will not forget that name. It is unusual. Vainglory is a word I never even uttered once in my life (to the best of my recollection) -nor ever heard anyone else say. I actually had to check and see if it was a word-perhaps it was some translation error, but no-it is a word.

The definitions of the two words overlap a bit. English grammar wizards (like my wife) would have a field day discussing the differences. However, Vainglory wins by a wide margin as an unusual and "catchy" title.

I will get the game regardless of what it is called. I do hope that it is changed back before release.

Sad decision, Vainglory in the context of "boastful vanity" so suited the period. Hopefully Paradox will accept Philippe's subtitled version.

Relegated to a subtitle is better than a total loss of the distinctive name Vainglory (plus we can refer to it by the subtitle).

Just do a google search with "white pride" and you know what I mean.

Well, IIRC, one of the leader traits in Vicky 1 was "vainglorious" too. I think that's where I first became aware of the term :)
