Opinions of the PON DLC

Fri May 10, 2013 1:36 pm

I've been looking at the DLC for this game and I see that there are four items:

The Spanish-American War 1898
The Franco-Prussian War
The American Civil War 1862
The Scramble for Africa Campaign

The latter being a 40-year campaign and looks like a must-have item. How many of you guys have picked these up and what do you think of them? I'm thinking of picking them all up. I don't have AGEOD's ACW so the American Civil War DLC looks like it might tide me over until ACW2 comes out later this year. The Spanish-American war sounds like it might be fun too.

They are all good to be honest. Some like the Franco-Prussian war give you access to a war that is rarely covered (apart from within wider 19C games). They are also all useful training exercises for the various forms of military action in the Grand Campaign. So the Spanish_American war helps with naval-land interaction etc.

The Scramble for Africa is a gem - I've not played it yet (still doing an 1850 GC) but it obv plumps you right down at the start of the slippery road to WW1 with Europe's borders in place and all those colonial tensions about to start
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

Yes, I had noticed that AAR. One of the things that led me to buy this game instead of Vic 2. Thanks for your feedback. I will now try to work my magic on my wife to persuade her to allow me to buy them all, and the RoP Gold upgrade (and Revolution under Siege' as well if I'm really smooth.) Then, who knows, I might try my hand at an AAR of one of the DLC situations.
