How can I annex Serbia?

Wed Jun 08, 2011 8:43 am

hello,

I am playing as Austria, and I won a war against serbia.

Serbia is not a province of my influence, so I can not annex it? I never see the option "annex".

Thanks.

You will need to switch to Extended Claims in the Option window then.

Shouldn't any kind of declaration of war against Serbia result in a crisis? Even breathing towards Serbia should result in a crisis ;) .

Russia should always back up Serbia in any event of crisis or an attack ... as it did historically ;)
Basically any Austrian advance in Balkan should result in a crisis/war with Russia as this was and still is their area of political, strategic and religious influence.

Breathing without a permission of Russia in Balkans is the correct word . :mdr: Controlling Balkan population was one of the reasons of Crimean war.
It should definetely create great crisis with Russia. Also IMHO annexation/colonization of Serbia should not need Extended Claims option. Historically Serbia was annexed both Austria and Ottomans after repeated wars in recent time frame. And it is plausable for Russia to annex them. In game whole Ottoman area is in the sphere of influence of Russia but balkans not. If Russia had the chance she would definetely annex/colonize balkans historically.

Indeed. Balkan countries were not stable to protect themselves and somehow lucky not be annexed thanks to the power struggle. But with this colonial map mode their indepence is in guarantee :) where Ottomans not. That region should create crisis(about declaring war and Annexation, it should be possible and plausable but with crisis and relation drop between powers) as it did historically.

You can annex but be quick ;) . Woodrow Wilson didn't write:
"A general association of nations must be formed under specific covenants for the purpose of affording mutual guarantees of political independence and territorial integrity to great and small states alike." before 1900's .

Both. Anything was possible before 14th point of Wilson.
Colonial/influence map mode should be revised including balkans.

Most important is after all the influence part, can anyone explain why this DOW didn't result in a crisis?

From the wiki Serbdom:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbdom

"The renaissance of Serbian nationalism after three centuries of Ottoman control of the Balkans came at the time of the romantic-nationalist Revolutions of 1848 in Western Europe and the 19th-century expansion and rise of a great Slavic Orthodox power, the Russian Empire, which has designed itself as a protector (and later liberator) of Orthodox Christian peoples (among Serbs, Greeks, Montenegrins, Romanians, Bulgarians, Slavic Macedonians) on Ottoman lands."

Well protector had many meanings :) Annexation/influence maybe.

also :" In 1863, the Association of Serbian Philology commemorated the death of Cyril a thousand years earlier, its president Dimitrije Matić, talked of the creation of an ethnically "pure" Slavonic people: "with God’s help, there should be a whole Slavonic people with purely Slavonic faces and of purely Slavonic character"

Seems some ok with unification from Serbian side, as he is one of the important people in the timeframe.

One of the main reasons of Crimean war is Russia's desire to control Balkans, so I think they are ok with entry.

If Ottomans have a chance to be influenced by Russia in game turns I would say Serbs,Bulgars should have 1000 times more probability to be influenced/controlled by Russia. :)

Edit: Modovia,Macedonia and Serbia are minor organized nation in game, how is that possible?
They were not even organized/civil war lately. Macedonia should not be organized as ex: Belgium ;)

Supporting a nation can sometime (rarely!) trigger a crisis against the aggressor.

I think at least Russia should start the game as 80-100 relations with Serbia, Montenegro with some kind of alliance.(If there is historical concensus, she wanted sovereignty of all nations in balkans/not wanted influence by moving troops to wallachia?:blink :) Currently has 0 relationship at start unlike OE relations which is warmer :D (5). Russia should be very protective in any kind of war declaration against them. Additionaly Russia should declare war to make them independent. (There is I think 1 case in Balkan events file,pan-slavism).
Balkan wars/independences seems heavily scripted for what if scenario/influence (But at specific time intervals).
