Interphase Length of War adjustments broken?

Wed Feb 04, 2009 4:39 am

The attached file is saved right before hitting "continue" in the interphase of May 1916. All powers have production and political choices already set and ready to go. I am playing as the Entente in turn-based mode w/o Army-by-Army mode. When you run it, you will see this:

Overall calculations for each power do not appear to match what the manual says should happen. Not even close.

For example:

France
Starts at 24 NW / +2 Parliament

Losses -1NW
Civ Prod +2NW
Parliament +2NW
Capture Mainz +1NW
Capture Phalz +1NW
Capture Morhange +1NW
Conscription event success +1NW
Military Cooperation event success +1NW
New Leader success +1NW

Based on the manual, at the end of the interphase, France's NW should be at 33.

But, at the end of the interphase, it was at 17 - off by 16!

Why? No idea. Manual provides no explanation. However, I did see a message in the log (you will see it 2 or 3 times for each power, maybe more?) saying that "Due to the Length of the War" France's NW has been reduced by -3. There should not be any length of war reduction based on what the manual says (in 1916 NW is reduced if a nation is at 35+, not the case here)

Maybe the Length of War NW reduction is taking place 4 or 5 times? Nothing else explains this NW situation. It's a real mess. If this can be fixed in the next patch it would be great. Ruins the game if not fixed.

For what it's worth, England example is the same:

England
25NW / -1 Parliament

Losses = 0, so no NW change
Civ Production: +3NW
Parliament: -1NW
Strat Warfare: -2NW (all message said was -30EP, based on the chart I assume this means -2NW)

Strengthen Parliament success +1NW
Conscription Success +1NW
New Leader Fail -1NW

At end of interphase, England NW should be at 26, instead it is at 11, so off by 15!

Again, it appears the "Length of War" NW hit is happening multiple times? Nothing else explains the NW being off by this much.

File attached to see if anyone can replicate.

*nod* Agreed. In my last few games I have been paying closer attention to length of war hits. In the 4 player game I just stopped right before I logged on, length of war hit each nation at war 4 times in the june 1915 interphase. Two was bad enough, but more than that is unmanageable that early in the game. I can't imagine what it will be like later in the war when you have to deal with the cumulative hits of Length of war and warweariness.

Yes, in 1916 one is barely able to keep NW > 20, so getting hit 4 times with a -3NW penalty that shouldn't even happen once is a bit of an issue!

Hopefully an easy fix though. The rest of the interphase stuff seems to be working pretty well.

In the file I posted with the original message, I was playing in "Strictly Turn Based" but NOT using Army-by-Army mode.

Thougher than expected, arghhh. The length of war is even bypassed for GB! :cuit:

I will have to debug deeply all NW fluctuations of GB... it needs time! :bonk:

Just so we are on the same page. This is not just a GB issue. It happens for ALL nations at war every interphase.
