HQ Strangeness

Hi,

I have attached the save files of a strange event during my current 1914 Campaign playing as the Entente - the save is during the redeployment phase of the May/June Interphase, and if you look at Dinant you can see that the British First Army is there as well as the German High Command, and the province is German controlled. Dinant had been held by the British First for the last couple of turns with the province under full Belgian control, and I'm pretty sure that it was not attacked in the last Military Phase. If you carry on playing by pressing End Turn the British army is retreated with heavy losses. This seems like pretty buggy behaviour to me :)

Furthermore, if you carry on playing to the diplomacy phase and send the "3" Russian ambassador on a mission to Bulgaria, whatever result he gets is counted the wrong way and the bulgarian diplomacy level increases. I have tried this several times and once bulgaria even declared war on the Entente after "sucessful" Russian diplomacy.

I am just posting the save here in the hope that it might help you track down bugs for the next patch - I think the game is great if a little unpolished at the moment, and I appreciate the efforts being made to perfect it.

Ok, I will try to reproduce the same conditions, starting a new campaign on the side of CPs and moving the GHQ alone against a British army. Let's see what happens... ;)

Thanks a lot.

Tried once: 0 diplomatic progression... going to try again.

Tried again, this time in debug mode. So I discovered that the CPs send a 3-valued AMB, so practically reducing your advantage to zero. In addition, Bulgaria is pro-Centrals, so the column on the Diplomacy Table is shifted by 1 column in favor of them. Now I found the problem: the message is confusing and it tells you were successful even if the diplomatic progression is not in favour of your side. So I'm going to enrich the message... ;)

Still testing your savegame, another element that has a great impact on Bulgarian diplomatic level is the successful mission performed by the CPs on Italy, that makes Italy joins the war on their side, so causing a chain reaction in the Balkans... :D

I tested an attack with the GHQ alone, and the battle took place normally.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my savegame - the issue with the diplomacy makes sense now that you have explained some of the influencing factors, and I agree with you that it would be a good idea to make these factors more transparent to the player in some way.

As for the strange behaviour of the German GHQ, this may just be some kind of one-off glitch if you are unable to reproduce it. There were plenty of other attacks from both sides in the preceding military phase, so perhaps the potential battle at Dinant was somehow missed by the engine? In any case, I have not seen this happen elsewhere despite many hours of playing.

Next patch will show you a message a bit enriched... smart example... "Your ambassador succeeded the mission and the dip. level moved by N points..." or "Your ambassador failed the mission and the dip. level did not change" or "Your ambassador failed the mission and the dip. level moved by N points in favor of the enemy!".

I do not think the engine "forgot" to execute a battle. I guess instead there was some particular move (breakthrough? weird rail transport? other?) that generated no battle at all... Anyway I see this is a very very rare occurrence.
