AI lockup under 1.05b

Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:11 pm

As I reported earlier, I'm having AI lockups in the Strict Turn Based Army-by-Army mode. As usual it occurred in August 1914. I've attached my saved game this time.

Excellent, I'll check your savegame tonigh.

Just one question: the "Give AI full time" option (Options window) is disabled?

I believe I did NOT have that box checked. So I assume that means it was disabled.

Is it an old savegame? I found two points inside the savegame that were blocking the game:

[ENGINE]
BeginEngine
...
NextActivationRequested=0
...
NextActivationRequestWorking=0

Or probably you saved the game during the enemy turn...
Then you restored the game and you found it locked... :blink:

Perhaps this is your case.
If so, I should have to avoid storing the two params NextActivationRequested and NextActivationRequestWorking...
;)

Herewith enclosed you can find the "fixed" savegame.

I didn't save the game AT ALL prior to it locking up. As for storing the two params, I have no idea what you're talking about. I just started the game and never stored anything at any time prior to the lockup.

Any parameters that are involved in those saved games are being put there by the program, not me.

Also, the AI locked up between army activations, not after I'd saved.

I'm playing the game to find bugs like these lockups, not to be able to continue playing. I appreciate the save game fix, but unless you understand what in the program caused those parameters to be present it does me no good.

I think he was "talking to himself" when he said "I should have to avoid storing to two params". He was explaining the fix he needs to implement to you.

Don't worry. I was "reasoning with myself"... :wacko:
You are asked to do nothing.

I'm still investigating. For sure, when encountering such malfunction, next patch 1.05C will make you able to save the game and start it again from the saved position with no AI lock. In the meanwhile I'm trying to reproduce the problem.

What exactly happened is that the game engine failed the transition from one army activation to the following one, so remaining locked in the transition.

With 1.05C, whenever you see this, just save and reload.
I hope to reproduce successfully your problem within tonight. ;)

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Thanks calvinus. Sorry if I was a bit animated, I just wasn't clear what you were thinking. It was as if you were saying it was something in the save process when I had never saved the game prior to this freeze up happening.

Good to know that at least by saving there will be a work around, cuz the "fixed" save did restart the AI for me.
