Where are the battlegrounds?

Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:49 am

Basically I have no problems with the orientation of the map - so long as I can scroll and zoom in and out.
But while I'm in the battle resolution phase I can only see a small part of the map (beneath the edge of the battle resolution window and the binocular view in the middle of the battle resolution window).
Because in my game the fronts are very variable and flowing I can often not identify the part of the front where the battle takes place (mainly in the wideness of the east).
So I not always sure if this battle is an really important one for me and I have to put all my reserves in it or better leave it for the next battle.
My Proposal: Is it possible to make the battle window transparent so you can see the now hidden part of the map?

Difficult to make it transparent, the battle window is full of data and already 'cluttered'... may be we can try though ;)

Don't you see the minimap on the bottom-right side...you could thus locate yourself more easily :)

I got this idea while I was organizing my mp3-library with winamp. In winamp you can adjust the transparancy between 0 to 100%. 10 or 20% works fine for me. I can see all the informations in the program window and also the programs running in the background.

I'm not sure but I think yes. Anyway the minimap is no real help in this issue. It's to small. (Or the map is to big:neener :)

How about instead of making the battle window transparent, make it so we can click and drag on it to move it around in the interface??? That we, if we want to, we can see where the battle it at, surrounding terrain, etc.

This actually has been a pretty big issue for me. I have been fortunate to to have the CTD problems on my machine, but not knowing for sure the location on the map of the region is where the battle is taking place, and what is around that region (should I retreat more easily if attacked, or will it expose the flank of other troops, should I plan a breakthrough here or not) makes it hard at times to make good decisions on how to conduct the battle.

In a very old version we had a transparent battle screen... ugly! A mess for playing. We abandoned it immediately.

I think that there must be someway of getting an idea where the hell this battle is?..how do we know which is an important engagement or not?....MUST be someway of making this happen?....at present I often remain confused! (Nothing new there then I hear you cry!)

Battle locations is tough to discern. I am quit good at geography and can hand draw fairly accurate maps of Europe in a short time. Even with that ingrained knowledge, I was having difficulties in knowing where a battle was taking place sometimes. After having racked up a couple dozen hours of play, I am getting the hang of the map. It is still difficult for me to use the "breakthrough" pop up map if there is no major town located in it. The map orientation does not help.

I think it is just a matter of exposure to the province locations-many of which I had never heard of, or had no clue as to where those were located. Some may not have noticed it yet, but the bino view of the battle location is tied to the surrounding maps. You can see some of the province borders in the battle dialog. This is one of those things that will call for actual in game experience to become comfortable with.

A related situation is with the pop-up for an interception. I have set it to the longest time to make a decision. At this time, it seems like there is not enough of info. I have taken an army off its assigned path for interception to join a battle where it was not even needed to achieve a victory. Hopefully, this will become easier with more exposure to the game, but some change may be warranted.

Maybe a small "ping" icon on the minimap to show more easily where a battle is taking place?

Someone also suggested zooming out before battle resolution to see more of the surrounding provinces during the battle.
