AI Calculation times and some other suggestions

Sat Nov 29, 2008 1:03 am

Hello Calvinus!

Okay after having spend many hours on the campaign and still not having really seen the year 1916 in-game, I can safely say that the latest patch 1.04e did improve things considerably and that is already quite commendable considering how much time you already spent on all the patches so far.

However, I was wondering whether it'd be possible (and after you got some more opinions from other players) to include some sort of a status bar that gradually fills up as the AI performs its calculations during the phases. What I'm getting at is that it is all good and fine to see the black box telling you what the AI is doing but more often than I'd like to, Im fearing for my ongoing game as it may have frozen up during the AI phases...

A bar, like the other AGEOD games had to show you the progress of the AI would ease a lot of player's minds...maybe.

Also, I know this isn't a priority right now but could you also find a solution on how to speed up the AI processes? It just takes VERY long for a phase to go through. This isn't so much apparent in the early game where only the a few nations are slugging it out among each other but as soon as the neutrals start joining it takes forever.

Thanks!

I agree, a good idea.

This evening, I dumped a rather good game as the CP in October because the Ai was going on 10 minutes. The whole time the pointer was frozen on the "next battle" button. I am fairly certain it was the last battle of the turn, so it did start on some AI activity. However, I had no clue as to whether it was actually doing something, or just locked up.

The most terrible AI calculations come from the Supply checks... :( It's a hell, because the AI (like in the game of chess), searchs all possible moves that can put your forces out of supply, or isolated at best. This can take a lot of time especially in advanced war, with a lot of nations...

This is indeed a point where I HAVE TO introduce valuable improvements!

In addition, I'm having big troubles in finding a way to display a % AI job done...
because I already thought of this! Several weeks ago... ;)

But do not worry, I'm working on it!
