event timer

Sat Nov 22, 2008 3:16 pm

It would be nice if I could disable the timer for deciding political event choices. ex.-the first german choice about gold for turkey. I can't even read it in the 60 second max limit.let alone think about the choices.
Am I missing something? Even with ai paused, the computer chooses for you if you are not fast enough.
Thanks

I could be wrong but I think that the event message that flashes up only for a short time at the start of the event phase is only to let you know what events are coming up.Shortly after, the same event will come up and will stay on screen untill you make your choices to the event.

That hasn't been my experience, but I have a whole afternoon to check into this more closely. Thanks.

Calvinus, If I had my choice I would need 10 minutes for these tired eyes and brain! However, I guess a good 3 or 4 min. would do. But is it out of the question to have this disabled? Was this related to the boardgame to keep things moving?
Thanks

Indeed I have to set a max timer, because the historical event locks the game until you have selected a choice.

In my current game, I thought there was an event with a clickable box behind all the message pop ups in the event phase, but when I was through them I only was presented with the results. It wasn't bad, because it seems the event in question (Marines Corps deployed in BEF) has only one option.

However, I would hate that an event with multiple options expires because I had to click through dozens of pop up notes.

Seems there's three options to solve that:
- make the event timer much longer
- have event windows that are on a timer ALWAYS on top
- don't let the timer start BEFORE the window is on top

My two cents. :)

Personally I vote for no time limit but a clear on-screen indication of the need to make a choice. I fail to see the need for a time limit. Taken to the extreme, you could also have a time limit for the all turn...(that would not be so bad for the AI, though :wacko :)
But this is not a RTS... ;)

I agree. I just don't understand why it could not be paused till you make a choice. :bonk:
