Hi Calvinus, I had the same problem last night, total freeze on a battle screen when the battle has finished, looking forward to the fix :)

Thanks for all your hard work by the way, looking forward to getting into that MP game...

It's definitely the event pop up(s) that's doing it for me. Might be my old-ish machine but I just can't get round the paused AI F9. No amount of hitting F9 or holding it in will unpause the game.

For me, it's the same thing everytime. An event notice pops up just before the screen changes to a battle screen and nothing can be done.

I have uninstalled everything. I'm going back to the pre 108E version for the time being.

Patch 1.08E update #1

Hello everybody,

herewity attached you can find the update #1 of beta patch 1.08E.
Let's use the following tag for future references on problem reports: 1.08.6.

Improvements:
- AI is now automatically un-paused upon battle start (for bad timed event popups that put AI in pause mode)

Fixed bugs:
- Fixed an AI bug that cause sometimes the play of enemy favoring events
- Removed a possible cause of battle screen freeze, please confirm if it's fixed

Please confirm also if the game is now stable (no more crashes) as 1.08C.

Important: this patch update requires 1.08E installed. To apply this patch, unzip the WW1.exe file within the zip file and copy it into the game directory, overwriting the old one, of course.

Thanks,
Calvinus.

FYI...Norton Internet Security 2010 does not like this .exe file.

I have replaced the exe file have played for about 1 and a half hours, plenty of battles and no freeze so far :)

Can't do much, sorry. My advice is to temporarily disable the Norton Internet Security and download the zip.
The problem is: delivering a new patch only for the WW1.EXE requires 2 days, and we have to save time. ;)

It's important we get a feedback from Patrat, AdrewKurtz & co.

In fact, I never had any battle freeze even with the former version of 1.08E, and I believe it's a matter of CPU.

Did you have battle freezes with former version of 1.08E and now no freeze with version tagged 1.08.6?

Edit: I also remind to Tamas to post here his zipped savegame pre-1.08E that crashed upon load.

Just to cheer you up a bit I might add that in addition to the overall improvement in the AI generally the game, for me, is stable, a crash once every 4-7 hours or so.

No problem..I can work around the AV. Thanks for continuing to provide responsive support :) .

BTW, I also did not experience any prior battle freezes. Am running an AMD quad core.

I never had any freezes until I installed the 1.08e beta patch, I replaced the EXE file last night and played for about 2-3 hour with no freezes... in fact after the last couple of patches I have noticed that the game and AI are faster than before the Beta's :)

So excellent news!

Let's keep testing this beta version 1.08.6 for the whole week-end.
Then, if everything goes well, I will send to Philippe the full installers of this new version as official 1.08F. :)

Side note: this 1.08.6 version has no more any events benefiting enemy played by AI. ;)

while im no longer getting the battle freezes, i do have another problem.

im getting repeated crashes (the old ww1 has encountered a problem kind) when the Franz Joesph dies event pops up.

im attaching a saved game in case you need it.

another less important problem is that i experienced some weird behavior during some of my battles.

in at least 3 battles in one turn with me defending, my rear line was already packed with troops when the battle screen poped up. there should of been only 2 corps in the rear line at the start of those battles not 6 or more, because 2 is the max number of corps i had in any of those regions. the extra troops seemed to me to be not only reserves troops which didnt belong there (at least not until i move them there), but also troops from neighboring regions. im not 100 percent sure of that last part, its hard keeping all those corps straight.

Not a bug. :)
These are the reinforcements before battle, coming from the neighboring HQs. ;)

I got the event in the end of Events phase. No crash. Do you have the crash also if you run the game from the latest save? Does it happen regularly every time Franz Joseph dies?

Posted: Sun May 30, 2010 12:40 pm
by patrat
yes i got the crash again at his death when i ran it from the save. the third time he didnt die so i was able to play till the end of the next event phase. then another crash caused by the us ship torpedoed event.

fyi im on an old amd 3000xp with 2 gig ram and an x800 pro vc. maybe my ancient hardware is causing the problem. i'll try updating my drivers.

Sounds and musics on?

If you have no more crashes upon Franz Joseph death if sounds & musics are disabled, please check the following MP3 is present and not corrupted:

[game dir]/Sound/Military/Snd_GeneralDies.mp3

This is the MP3 played when this event is triggered.

The official patch 1.08F will contain some news as compared to 1.08.6 version...

Improvements:

- Added a tweaking to allow a faster execution of movements on map

Bug fixes:
- Fixed a regression bug in supply checks
- Fixed a bug in diplomatic checks that caused weird results in some occurrences

Try it. Indeed it's a mystere you get a recurrent crash where I do get no crash, both in debug and not in debug mode. Anyone else can try the save of patrat, please?

Debug Assertion Failed

Hi. Before trying Patrat's save, updated to 1.08E including the new executable to see if the patch would break a saved gave.

Completed my current (Jun 1916) turn and the Diplomatic Phase for July but upon ending the July Military Phase got the error message shown in the post title and attached .jpg followed by a CTD. Same CTD occurred after reloading the save and attempting to end the July turn, which is also attached below.

I have no idea what a failed debug assertion might be...

Best Regards

Very little time to play :( and a big manual to read... ;)

Tried 2 times patrat's save (1.08.6 exe), advancing a couple of turns, but got no Franz Joseph death event, so could not see if it caused a crash...

A few minor points:
- Is it WAD that when we start a saved game (and sometimes between turns, IIRC) the map goes to the upper left corner ?
- I still saw a few negative events played by the entente on her countries (strikes, rebellion), but as I have yet to grasp the full complexity of the mandatory events, etc, I will not presume it to be a bug.
- Finally, a piece of humor: In the battle of St. Quentin the Entente forces were (intermittently ??) led by...Lawrence :mdr: (see attached pic)
