Game Crash - Vers 1.05l

Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:27 pm

Sorry - as the game is processing the military turn Mar-Apr, 1916, it crashes with the M/S error box - problem encountered. I can't get into the M/S box to get details of the error I'm afraid :( . I'm on Win XP - highish system, 2 gigs RAM etc.

Incidentally, I selected no music, as usual for me, but when I re-loaded the game, I did get the music - seemed to ignore this preference.

I've tried this three times - crashed each time. Save game attached - hopefully.

I'm running your savegame right now, with no problems. So please can you provide some additional information, please?
I suppose you are playing in WEGO mode, right?
When does the game crash exactly? During the end-turn procedure or during the AI job?
Also, do you have the same crash with every scenario/campaign/savegame?
Finally, what is the exact config of sounds? Load all sounds at start: on or off? Play sounds in streaming mode: on or off?

Playing in WEGO mode. The game crashes during end turn procedure - whilst the moves are being carried out. This is the one and only crash I have had - ie M/S prob with this save game.

As for the sounds cfg both load at start and streaming mode are off, which I think is the default.

So you are having only this crash with this savegame only, right?

Correct - I've now tried it six times - same crash at the same place each time. I did think about trying it with different options selected in the configurator, but I'm unsure if this will make any difference.

That did the trick the game progressed, tho' in stony silence. Clearly a sounds issue.

One other thing - there was a naval battle in this phase - GB v Germany. GB damaged 5 German squads and sank 2. GB suffered 1 damage. The German fleet fled in disarray. The battle result gave Germany as the winner and as a consequence GB lost 3 NW points - don't seem fair :( .

Couple of points if I may :) -

[1] I don't fully understand your reply. Does this mean I will not be able to play the game with sounds enabled?

[2] You didn't comment on the odd naval result. I thought these sort of results had been eliminated, or is this one of those issues that still arise in old saved games?

It means that maybe a way to solve the sound and music related problems has been found  . In a thread in the "help to improve WW1" sub-forum, Calvinus is asking for volunteers to try a new version of ww1.exe with a improved sound engine. Maybe you should give it a try ? If yes, you just have to PM Calvinus

Yes, I was very short in posting, because as usual I'm doing several tasks in multitasking mode! :cuit:

Cheers - the light eventually dawned - I've pm'd Calvinus as you suggest.
