105i Grand Offensive NW Bonus?

Fri Jan 30, 2009 1:59 am

See attached save files. The French, having gotten a message that they "successfully completed" a Grand Offensive this turn, get no NW benefit at the end of the turn? Just click to continue the turn. This is saved right before the end.

The French I Army did the offensive, which started in July 1914. The Army took two areas, including Metz. I stopped the Grand Offensive this turn. So, according to the manual, the French should get some kind of NW bonus? Doesn't seem to have happened.

No, because Grand Offensives (bonus) are only valid during Trench Warfare (i.e. from 1915+), not movement warfare like in 1914 ;)

I guess that dougbush93 missed 1914 for 1915.

Anyway, the Grand Offensive NW gain/loss checks are performed at the end of the year, not before. ;)

Yes, sorry about that, it was in July 1915, not 1914.

So let me ask to clarify: if a power successfully completes a Grand Offensive, it has to wait until the end of the year for the NW bonus?

If so, ok, but that is not how it works in the boardgame, where you get the bonus / penalty at the end of the turn when the GO ends.

Yes, the test is done at the end of the year.

However, following some reports from Italian players (faster communication :D ), I'm going to check some points, such as:

- Deadlines for NW checks as reported by you;
- Combat Doctrines adoption tests : some players complained it's sometimes practically impossible to adopt a new doctrine... Adoption tests are done at the beginning of the battle, so if the enemy escaped before the battle, no test is performed! :bonk: So I'm wondering if I should make the test is performed at the beginning of the offensive, and not of the battle...
Your opinion??? ;)

If the battle results do not influence the test, then do it at the beginning ;)

Ok, I totally refactored the procedure for Combat Doctrines adoption tests, that is now performed:

1) At the very beginning of the Grand Offensive launch;
2) Later, at the beginning of every Grand Offensive battle, starting from the second one (in order to avoid a double-check upon the first one, of course :D )

This would improve greatly your chances in getting new Combat Doctrines, in case of enemy escape before battle, eh eh :)

Well, now I can work on your stuff, Doug. :thumbsup:
What do you mean for "I stopped the Grand Offensive this turn" ?
Did you go to the GO window and clicked the button "Stop"?
So the offensive really stopped at the end of the turn?

So I guess you wish the GO success/failure NW checks are to be performed:
- at the end of the turn if you stopped the offensive, or
- at the end of the year if you did not stop the offensive and you waited till December.

Right? ;)

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Yes. Implementing the NW success/fail checks that way would be just like in the boardgame. :thumbsup:
