Install Problems

Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:10 pm

Hi,

Software:
Bought WW1 and upgraded it to Gold. Patched to the latest 'L' patch.

Specs:
Running Windows XP, 4 gigs of ram, GTX260 video, I7 Intel CPU, and a 2 TB hard drive.

Problem:
- Tons of windows exception errors (virus protect is not on, and nothing is running in the background except essential win services).
- Very S-L-O-W performance even with a top of the line rig. Performance is far worse than ACW or the Revolutionary Ageod games.
- Lockups. I've waited for a least 5 minutes before a reboot. If this game needs more time than that, I am shelving it.
- Game often doesn't let me proceed with next turn during activation. It keeps tells me I haven't activated all the armies (I beg to differ) and there is no in game help to tell me what I need to do.

As a veteran AGEOD customer, I am used a higher quality product and a far more intuitive game than this game. I don't like wasting my money like I seem to have done with this game.

For performance, run the game from the exe adapted for one core.

Activation: armies unactived have a red flag. All armies must have on the first turn to be activated before proceding to the next turn. Don't forget if you're playing the 2 players 1914 scenario you're in charge of West and East Front, and if you're playing Entente, France and Russia.

What is the Antivirus installed on your PC? Some antivirus, even if (partially) disabled, keep working in background and generate conflicts with WW1 game.

Did the demo perform any different than the whole game on your system?

Anti-Virus
I have Vipre but it doesn't load on startup in WinXP. I used MSConfig to remove the autostart and run it only when I need the net.

Demo
I didn't try the demo. I usually buy the products on faith knowing that if there are problems Ageod fixes them. I own every game Ageod puts out -- dedicated fan I suppose. I bought this game when it was released and shelved it until last week. I bought the gold update hoping to pay and bam tons of bugs and lockups.

Single
I'll try running the game in single core but I don't understand why the default game would be running in multi core if there is this amount of problems.

My comments
I hope someone at Ageod realizes that not everyone goes to Ageod and looks for resolution. A lot of people will throw up their hands and consider the game a coaster. I am close to doing that with this game and this is my cry for help.

Thank you for the kind replies -

Hang in there Turbo. I had some "freeze ups" and after investigation by the good people here, I found the freeze ups to be of my own making (trying to intercept when I shouldn't as one example and in redeployment I moved a land unit that was in transport at sea - by not moving him my game worked fine after that). I thought at first my game was bugged, but I have finished 2 massive campaigns and have started my third. Don't give up as it is a good game and I am also a die hard WIA fan (played that War of 1812 game about 30 times through). I always ask here, in this forum, when I have a problem or question and is always answered. Don't give up.

Hi PhilThib,

I left you a PM regarding WWI. I am hoping that Calvinus' solution solves my issues with the game.

As a favor could you change the title of this thread to just "Problems" instead of the bugfest thing? I posted this when I was frustrated and it isn't constructive. Truth be told, I want to play the game and want the problems solved.. Thanks..
