I updated the game with the Gold patch but now it will not recognise the serial key. I have imputted the new key into the configure game page but to no avail. I then tried to imput it manually into the Ww1.ini and Serial.ini files but it would not let me save the amended file - wrong path or something.
is there anything else I can do?

Be sure you're logged is as PC Administrator and UAC is off. Probably the OS prevents you from overwriting the files because you haven't the enough priviledges.
