Gold on 64 with 7

I purchased Gold upgrade recently. I reinstalled original, then installed gold upgrade next. Serial key wouldn't take with either so I found forum thread saying to enter manually into .ini file. That solved that.(btw I pasted the keys so odd
Next game wouldn't start after intro movie. Unchecked sound effects seemed to solve that. So then I have "loading" screen appear. Last problem is the red loading bar stops just before completely extending to right hand side. As if the last small dark section is not filling in red. Seems like an important component should load then but it fails.
ATM I've uninstalled and waiting for help.
Should I install any patch BEFORE Gold or after that will help. C++ patches, Divx, DX, patches seem to be satisfactory.

Hello, patches are to be installed always after.

1) Be sure you are logged in with UAC off: you have to install and play the game with UAC off.
2) You must login Win7 as PC Administrator.
3) Running Win7 in XP SP2 compatibility mode and with 'Disable Desktop Composition' checked.
