Map Scrolling Very Slow

Wed May 26, 2010 2:20 pm

Is the map scrolling supposed to be very slow? I have the speed set all the to the right. I've disabled UAC, Installed and Ran as Administrator, tried loading the whole map at the start, disabled the sound. Nothing speeds it up. Also, when clicking on the mini-map there is about a 2 second delay to reposition.

My computer exceeds the specs.

Anything else I should be trying?

I'm not sure, but if you move the slider on the right, you increase the lag time for map scrolling, instead of decreasing it. So move the map scroll slider on the left...

Edit: I confirm you have to move the slider of the map scrolling on the left.

whoa, I thought moving it to the right would increase the speed of scrolling! Will try tonight- thanks.

So, I tried the fix. Nothing really happened - it's the same speed no matter what I choose. Also the same 2 second delay when clicking on the mini map.

Am I the only one?

Not a game breaker but frustrating all the same.

(edit) I am playing the gold version.

Maybe the problem is similar:

In the end, the guy disabled sounds & musics and the game run fine.

As an update, I clicked "low color" or whatever that is and disabled just about everything not related to actual gameplay (sounds etc). The scrolling sped up. :)

3g

I noticed that in the empty areas of the map the scrolling was much faster and smoother.

The empty areas are a common bitmap texture, this is why the scroll is faster.

Does your video card meet the requirements? (256 MB Video RAM).

The map bitmaps are indeed stored into VRAM as much as possible, the remainder comes into the PC RAM (slower). This could be the reason of the map scrolling slowness.

Nope, that must be it. It's 128mb- I thought it was 256.

Just one question: do you have always the same scroll speed whatever is the position of the slider in the Options window?

If so, I added a tweaking.

For the 2-seconds delay when clicking on the mini-map, this is the loading time of the map. But it should occurr only the first time you click on that particular portion of the map and only if the option "Load all map at start" is not selected (WW1 Config tool).

In any case, the main problem is that your video card is below the minimal requirements... :(

I have an old 6600gt 128mb, I use low colour depth, I also have the whole map loaded at start option checked, the loading does take a while but it stops most of the stuttering in game so I reckon its worth it....

Also I noticed that turning off vertical sync made a difference, I had this disabled in my nvdia option's anyway so it may have been my imagination, the beta patches or something else I unknowingly done... anyway hope this helps you a little :)

Oh I forgot, I also have sound effects off......

I added a tweaking in the incoming official patch 1.08F for the map scrolling stuff, that should work for the CPUs that are showing these problems. I hope this will help.

Indeed I discovered that on some CPUs the game engine applied a fixed 2 seconds lag time when scrolling the map (or clicking the mini-map), whatever map scrolling speed was selected. So please confirm here if the probelm is now fixed with 1.06F as soon it's available for download.

Thanks for your patience,
Calvinus.

I downloaded the latest patch. There is no delay clicking on the mini-map and scrolling is a little faster.
