CTD after movment

Sat May 22, 2010 5:48 pm

I'm at a loss. I've done every recommended fix to avoid CTDs, and this turn just won't finish-- it CTDs after all the moves are executed but before the battles begin.

Help?

Hello Davek,

I'm testing your save: no freeze, no crash during movements nor battles nor interceptions...

Which is you operating system?
If running under Vista or Win7, have you disabled UAC?
Are you running the game being logged with PC administrator priviledges?

Thanks,
Calvinus.

Windows 7, no UAC, logged in as administrator...

Darn peculiar!

Some additional tips:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

A: never activate that option... most resident programs generate popups that make the game application loses the focus and crashes

B: this option creates HTML logs. Such activity is detected by antivirus as a threat, so the antivirus makes the game crash

C: in case of sound card HW compatibility issue, disable sounds here

Okay, a couple things.

I misspoke-- apparently, I *wasn't* running it as an Administrator. I am now.

Of course, once I tried that, it made my serial key invalid. Joy. Thankfully, I found the thread that showed me how to get around that.

That said, I now have the game booted up, but my saved games have disappeared. They're in the same folder they were before, but the game itself won't show any saved games.

What gives?

EDIT: Scratch that... I just copied the saved game from my Windows User folder into the "SaveGame" subfolder in the game folder and it showed up.

Not the most intuitive process, heh.

I re-installed, ran the patch, ran as administrator... works now, got past the turn.

No clue what the hang-up was.

I think the reason was because you first installed the game without the PC Administrator priviledges, then you activated the Admin...

The best procedure to avoid such problems is to work always with UAC off and PC Admin login.
I did it so one week after I bought the PC, because I realised that 90% of applications did not worked at all... :(
