I think I have found what the save game problem is

Started a new game as CP under 1.05h. Playing turn based army by army. In August 1914, I activated German I Army, moved it, then went to save the turn. The game crashed on save. Restarted game, went to load last save, the save must have been corrupted, as it would not load and locked WWI.
This is similar to earlier problems I had when trying to save in same game mode after activating German I, II, and III Armies. Got the same result. Never had the problem saving after any other point.
So, my feeling is the problem has to do with either saving after the German I army is activated, or perhaps after the primary army has been activated on a front. Those are the only two common threads I can find.
Save game files are not posted, because only the August.sav file was created, the August.map was not created during the crash.

Ok, I tried
desperately all combinations:
- I army activated, save : no crash
- I army move scheduled, save : no crash
- I army movement done (Louvain), end of batte in Louvain, entered the Breakthroughs sub-phase, save : no crash
- Planned a breakthrough, save : no crash
- Executed the breakthrough, then the battle, end of breaktrhough sub-phase, save : no crash
- Now activated the II and III armies (coordination), save : no crash
- Planned movements, save : no crash
- Executed movements and battles, save : no crash
- here sorry no breakthoughs...
I suspect you are not using the 1.05H, please can you check the version of the WW1.exe file? It should be 1.0.5.8.
Thanks,
Calvinus.

Calvinus,
I really appreciate your efforts to track this problem down. I did check my exe file and I am properly using 1.05h.
The only other thing I can think of is this. After I installed 1.05h, I went to my save game directory and selected all my old save files for deletion, as I wanted to start anew. When I did this, there was one save file (not the map file) that was the result of an earlier crash a day or two ago (this file came from the first crash I reported under 1.05g). This file would not allow itself to be deleted in any way from windows explorer. Every time I would try to delete it or move it, it would say that the file was in use by a program and couldnt be deleted. It did this even when WWI was not running.
So, upon waking up this morning and seeing your reply and that your tests were in vain to reproduce my problem, I rebooted my computer, and then was able to final deleted that old bad file.
I am now going to try again and see if I get the same problems or not, as I am wondering if that old file had anything to do with my problems and why you could not reproduce my troubles.

also, my settings on the game settings menu are as follows:
I have checked the options 1) play intro video 2) load all sounds at start 3) enable sound effects 4) play sounds in streaming mode 5) load all map at start.
All other options are unchecked. Could this configuration be an issue?

The only difference on my config is the "load all map at start", but I do not believe it's the cause.

Well, after getting rid of the one old corrupted save on my computer, things seem to be working fine now, no matter when I save or what army has been activated.
I am guessing that something in that old corrupted save I couldnt delete because it was allegedly being used by the program might have been the culprit.

If you was unable to delete that save, it means there was some process active that was using that resource (file). In such cases, go to the Task Manager and kill the process you "feel" is using the resource. I have often these problems, with a lot of softwares, mainly under Win XP... I mean not with WW1, but generally speaking.
Edit: for example, it happens to me often with Open Office. I save a open office file and quit the application, that remains active for some weird reason... Then I reload the file, which has remained "busy" and when I try to save it again, open office crashes!

Thanks Calvinus. Things continue to run smoothly now.
