I've mentioned this in relation to a post by 06 Maestro on the Help Improve WW1 board, but after following his advice I'm no further advanced so I'm bringing the problem here.
When I first installed the game I specified a different installation path to the default. The game seemed to install alright and ran fine from the automatic start after load. When I closed down and tried to start from the desktop shortcut, however, the game threw itself to the toolbar and 'renamed' itself World War One (c) 2008 by AGEOD. To access it I then have to click on the toolbar link. To make matters more confusing it then continues to rename itself in the toolbar to what look like a series of download speed references.
In play I'm getting the same long hang times and other problems that have been reported elsewhere, but nothing else unusual. Still, it can't be meant to work like this, surely.
I'm running XP and the version I downloaded was 1.04d. I've since patched up to 1.04g then 1.05b but the issue remains.
I've also uninstalled, checked the All Programs menu for remnants (found none), and reinstalled several times. Still the issue remains.
I've noted that in an early reply on this board Phil mentioned that the download should have included two files - a short one and a long one. The only one I received was WorldWarOne_eddrm_ef and that weighed in at 839,756,540 bytes.
Whether or not that has anything to do with the problem I have no idea, but any help with a fix would be much appreciated.
