Run USA vs Yellow CSA

Thu Feb 12, 2009 1:32 am

This is the Round 2 West campaign thread for runyan99 (USA) versus Yellowhammer (CSA).

Manstein is Hosting. We are using the 1.13B Patch.

I'll admit that I'm a bit apprehensive playing against 'Professor' Runyan. But, since I'm playing as the South, I'll be able to observe his USA strategy and perhaps turn it against him.

Yeah I would probably have preferred to play CSA first.

1862, Early March

National Morale:
USA = 100
CSA = 100

Victory Points:
USA = 28
CSA = -13

Combat Losses:
USA = 0 / 0 POW
CSA = 0

CSA captured Fort Gibson IT.
USA captured Mercer Harbor KY.
USA captured Humboldt TN (CSA retreated).
CSA captured Paducah KY.
USA captured Columbus KY.
CSA captured Decaturville TN.
USA captured Lexington KY.

USA Solicitar Voluntarios.
CSA One Time Tax.
CSA 6% War Bonds.
CSA Call for Volunteers.

Runyan is in a strong position with Grant's Army of TN (PWR 1287, maybe 22,000 men) centered at Humboldt TN, with Pope (PWR 381, maybe 7,000 men) at Columbus KY and Dodge's Corps (PWR 686, maybe 12,000 men) at Decaturville TN. I'm not good at translating Power to Effective Troops, but you get the idea: I probably won't be attacking with my smaller force.

I'll be interested to see how runyan handles Drafts and Finances. I try to balance the Draft and Finances with my estimate of available War Supplies, but I don't understand some of the more sophisticated strategies (timing and relationship of VP to conscripts / money).

I hope you're delaying some of your commentary here because I guarantee he'll use it against you if you aren't. :)

Daxil - I post right after sending the ORD file - no delay.

I'm not revealing anything runyan doesn't already know. I'm pretty sure runyan knows he's in a strong position, and that the CSA has a smaller force ;)

Plus, from Professor Runyan's strategy thread:

"The Tactical Defense is Really Strong"

I won't be attacking unless presented with a juicy target. However, Lee's words at Gettysburg about Meade come to mind:

"Meade will commit no blunder on my front"

Bottom line: sucks to be me :)

Hi all.

I´m the host on Runyan-Yellowhammer game. I will try to do a little AAR about this game. I already have done the first turn AAR, but I will edit it at 6th turn, so, anybody could pick any valid information about the AAR´s.

Regards.

I just discovered something, you can print money and then keep printing it like there's no tomorrow.

I never used the Print Money option in games against Athena, and rarely used the Taxes; issuing Bonds was always sufficient.

What is this inflation stuff? ;)

Bonanza economica. La inflacion disminuye en 1 punto. (Maybe I should have kept that information private, but I’ve never seen that message before, I hope it was good news)

Runyan has Asboth and the MO Cavalry Brigade (and others) active in the West against my Cherokees. Runtan also committed Pope (and others) to the seige of Island 10.

Yes, good thing I read a little Spanish, as your install spits out Spanish event reports. A potential hazard for international play.

At Transmississippi front, the Union forces are splitted and I suppose that they will wait to the winter finnish.

Butler is Destroyed! He came in hot expecting to overwhelm the single Militia unit protecting New Orleans, but instead was met by Hardee's Corps on the riverbanks.

The CSA was building a TN brigade at Carthage TN that was destroyed. Why they decided to muster there instead of the less risky areas of the State I'll never know...

runyan - that was a bit 'gamey' of me, knowing that Butler was coming...

I was born in New Orleans and couldn't give it up without a fight. Pulling off that stunt feels really good - I could lose the rest of the game and still be happy :)

runyan - I read Jarkko's West AAR and then the Benway vs Coffee Sergeant PBEM thread.

Hardee assembled at Springfield LA, out of sight and a 2 day train ride from NOLA. When Butler threatened NOLA, they moved in to repulse the landing. In addition to the plan, I got lucky.

I expect you to pay it back, so when I play as the USA maybe I'll think about invading Mobile or Matagorda instead ;)

You still have me outnumbered at the front (and on the sides).

BTW, the mistake I made earlier was to set the attack mode to 'orange' attack instead of 'red' assault buildings. I simultaneously attacked Des Moines IA, Chicago IL, Lexington MO, and Rolla MO - but my troops didn't bother the defenders in the cities. I tried again the next turn with the attack set to 'red', but not only were my troops weakened, Runyan also reinforced those cities. Fail.

That looks like a surprising result, Grant ´s Force is double the size and on the defensive, with a huge advantage in artillery, odds were heavily in Union´s favour.
