How about Machiavelli?

Mon Oct 13, 2008 8:26 pm

One of the best backstabbing boardgames ever made. It would be awesome if someone licensed this gem. Why not before? It can't be that hard to re-create.

Just some food for thought :) .

Never played, but heard a lot of good things about it.
Like Diplomacy on the Renaisance, isn't it?
But for what i've heard, this game should be always played against real people. Backstabbing an AI is not too fun, and you can hardly hope to develop an AI capable on doing good and intelligent backstabbings.

There is not a Vassal or Sun Tzu version of it? :bonk:

Regards!

DON´T EVER PLAY THIS WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND!

Unless you need her to ignore you for ever.

I believe there is a PC diplomacy game (exactly the same idea)

Just played once Junta ...

a banana republic, everyone tried to get rich and powerful... a right government was unimportant....

Well in fact... seemed nearly any world government :D

(except those advanced scandinavians...) :D

It's been about twenty-five years, but I still fondly remember my first game of Machiavelli. Turks, Austrians, Milan, France, and the Papal States all decided my Venetian Republic had to be divided up before anybody did anything else.

Agree about AI but AGEOD are pretty good at AI so they could make viable training oppontents at least.

Well, if AGEOD could get the rights to Junta then I would be a very happy camper. I played tons of games (including with girls/women). Totally awesome game.

As for Machiavelli, yes it's fair to compare with Diplomacy but I always thought this had more flair and more depht. Both are good games though. Paradox should be ashamed for the shit they made :( .

Still. This is AGEOD and they would do great with either license :) . We talked about sales potential before. Junta done right is a real seller imho.

Machiavelli is a quality good game that is vastly underplayed. I still have the AH version. However I quite regularly play it on the Net now (DP Judge) and it seems to suit that medium even better thn a boardgame. The players are usually very witty and amusing especially in a role playing sense. I highly reccommend it. They need an injection of new blood as the player pool seems small (most being from the states).

Junta also a great game, unfortunatelt due to weight restrcitions I left my copy back in the USSR in Moscow. I wonder what stories that game could tell if it still lives

I am quite impressed that Junta was for sale in USSR. I always thought they would play Kremlin there ;) . Another good game btw.

In fact. These type of games would be golden on systems like XBLA. Think about it AGEOD ;) . You are looking at fairly fast development and good ROI here.

There was a game named Machiavelli by Microprose vers 1995 and a second one later.
Something to see with the boardgame ?

Only in name.

Wouldn't mind a remake of EFS by AGEOD either, with their AI skills it would have been a hit.

EFS : Empire of Fading Suns ?
It reminds me also an EFS universe game hosted by Pocus at Stars! (another great multiplayer game).

Yes and Yes :) .

I thought about Montjoie, this game is a great example of boardgame conversion done right. I hope AGEOD investigates some of these IP:s for the future.

Did you contact HD about it then?

Btw, this wasn't about the boardgame but about AGEOD doing a computer version of it. I hope this dicussion is still alive.

Think the people that Machiavelli was a diplomatic game???????????

I think that it was a TERROR game. I remember the venetian player´s face watching his fleet at lagoon at spenditure phase and he has an enemy fleet adjacent... :cursing:
