Lots of crashes in Windows 7

Fri Mar 07, 2014 2:46 am

So I decided to play this a bit more, but I'm seeing a lot of crashes. Most of them seem to be random, but now I'm getting one that happens at the same place again and again, after finishing a specific battle.

I'm running windows 7 (64), and I've tried changing and disabling all sort of settings, running in single CPU mode, etc. I'm getting very frustrated, and while it'd be easy to give up, I'd really like to play the game, so hopefully someone here can give me some tips.

One thing I've been wondering is if playing with the army activation system, rather than the wego system, might make the game more stable. I haven't tried it yet, but I'd certainly be willing to, if someone here thinks it might help.

Anyone?

edit: I've uploaded a save game, in case anyone wants to take a look at the reproducible crash.

Hello, I'll try to reproduce, investigate and fix the crash using your SaveGame. Thanks, Calvinus.

Yeah, I'm using 1.08Q. That's the latest one, right?

Tried some times (Win8 64), in WEGO and Turn-based mode, in debug and non-debug, no crash. I saw Thionville and Metz captured by the French...

Thanks for the effort, Calvinus. I tried playing in activation mode instead, and it seems much more stable. I've only had a single crash so far, and that was when I tried to quit. To be honest, I think I prefer activation mode anyway. It seems much easier to figure out what's going on, where the battles are happening, etc.

I was bogged by the crashes in Win7-64 too. But when I changed game resolution in the configurator to the stock 1024x768, the stability greatly increased, no crashes so far. I don't use compartibility settings and singe-CPU mode. UAC is disabled. Admin mode is enabled. I have wide monitor with the non-standard 1600x900 resolution. Can it be the tru case of crashes?

I'm puzzled, I don't see any cause in screen resolution for game crashes...

I'm puzzled too. But it seems to be so.
