How do I switch the CPU mode?
I see no buttons and I have run the config.

I think the game may well be much faster in single mode

Go to the game folder and run WW1.bat

You may want to create shortcut and put it in your desktop

at the start menu it only says this:

Play world war one - gold version

IT lists no option to use any CPU mode =(

Version 1.0.8h

The patch is not properly installed then.

I suppose it is the same problem that the one reported by Franciscus and company.

So you have the original game and the upgrade kit?

There's no option to click on, just a new link in the Start Menu of Windows:

Calvin this is just weird.......

It wont install the maps in single cpu mode
It does install them in non-single-cpu mode

I tried completely uninstalling the game erasing every folder
and completely reinstalling the game.

It still wont install the maps in single cpu mode

I have an i7 860 cpu
4 gigs of ram
an ATI Raedon 5850 video card
I am at a loss

Calvinus stated that this game is designed for multi-core use, unlike the other AGEOD games.

As a result, why do you want to run it in single core use if it is designed for multi-core use ???

It may be designed for multicore cpus, but in certain configs (like mine - laptop win7 64 icore7), multicore gives immense amounts of mouse lag, solved in singlecore mode. If everything is ok (no lag) with you, use normal mode. If you have lag, try single core, it will probably be amazing. :)

this is probably a stupid question, but is single cpu mode only for use with multi core cpus?

On the plus side.....Calvin

The freezing in AI combat has stopped

which I think is a major good thing

Gray_Lensman wrote:Explain better "won't install the maps"... I suspect you might have to reboot your system to get the machine back to normal mode prior to installing anything. The single CPU mode is primarily for running the game in single CPU mode AFTER installing the game and associated files. I definitely would not attempt to do anything other running/playing WW1 while in single CPU mode.

At the message 'initializing map'.....
It simply stops

I open the task manager and there is no application listed.
I have no answer, its a mystery
Quite likely w a simple cure

and I did reboot =)

This mode (in fact a batch file that launches ww1.exe in single-core affinity) is ONLY to be used if you have mouse lag in a multi-core config, running Win7 (maybe only 64bit versions). Other users may try it, of course, but if you have no lag, there is no reason.

I have the default options in the WW1 configurator, meaning I do not have checked the option to load all map at start. WW1.bat loads OK. I have Win7 64, icore7 CPU

Chiteng:
What is your OS ? Win 7 ? Do you have lag in normal mode ? What is your Antivirus ? Did you exclude from your antivirus both WW1.exe and WW1.bat (I did it just to make sure) ? Are you running as administrator ? Did you try to check in Ww1.exe properties and deactivate visual themes and desktop composition ? (if running Win7 ? - although I am not sure it is necessary). Some users have also reported that it works in WinXP mode compatibility, but in my case it froze).

I am not sure, but I think so, because probably the batch command does not work if you have only a CPU core - the affinity of all applications is only for the existing core, of course.

Win 7 Avira no lag that I noticed I dont know how to 'exclude' my
game from the AV
not running as admin

those parts of the game seem to work normally so I didnt alter them

Install and run the game as PC Admin, with UAC off. Let's say this is a must.

Will it improves the speed of the game when using the single cpu mode?
There aren't any bottons to switch the CPU mode.

It improves only on those PCs with Win7 that showed speed problems.

No button. You have a new link to run the game:

Start menu (of Windows) > World War One Gold > World War One (single-CPU mode)

The reason I tried CPU mode is quite easy to explain.

The game 'Bombing of the Reich' dragged interminably, I upgraded my computer
from an AMD 1800 to a i7 860

and the game dragged interminably, possibly even slower.

However, when switched to single core mode, FINALLY the game screams.
No more waiting 15 min for pilot selections.

I had wondered if WW1 would do the same.

So WW1 is not the only game that suffers in multi-core mode with some CPU chipsets on Win7...

Hmmm...I've had no perceptable issues running gold on an AMD quad core and Win 7. Actually it has been a very stable game through the many hours of gameplay.
