As recommended in the manuel I sent them in the North Sea (along with the Zeppelin) and so far they didnt managed to attack anything, there is a battle window opening but it seems contact is never been made. Do I use theses subs the proper way?

You can keep them also in the rear (ports bordeing North Sea). They are so used in support of scouting fleets (reconnaissance bonus etc.).
