So upgrading from the trial to the full version

So my friend downloaded the trial version.

Then added the code for the full game.

Then added 1.06a full game patch.
Then added 1.06d full game patch.

is this the correct way to do it? Sometimes his version doesnt appear to be as stable as the full game off the CD plus the latest full game patches.

Any thoughts?

To my understanding the demo-version is already a full version, which can be unlocked by entering a serial-key. Then it should be sufficient to install the latest official patch (1.06d at the moment) and everything should be up to date.
