Stacks and units

Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:03 pm

I have a couple of questions about stack and units:

1) I read somewhere on these forums that 1.06 will feature easier merging of units. Is that still the case (please say yes)? I've been trying to merge two fleets in Wilhelmshafen, and I finally succeeded on my 50th try. Very frustrating.

2) I still can't figure out how to attach or detach a stack to/from an army. It seems than when I create a new stack, it will sometimes be independent and sometimes be attached to the army the unit(s) were taken from. Also, how do I attach a stack that is already attached to an army, to a different army?

3) Am I right in assuming that fortresses count towards the stacking limit?

4) How exactly do I move independent units? I've tried doing it at the end of my military phase, after moving all armies, as the manual states, but I've yet to succeed. I keep getting a message that the army the unit belongs to is not activated (although, obviously, none of the independent units belong to any army).

Edit: When I have 2 stacks with the same number of corps, in the same region, which are attached to the same army (sounds complex, I know, but it actually happens quite often :D ), and I try to merge them, I'm annoyed that they're both displayed in the merging dialog, since I then have to guess which one is the one currently selected. Surely there's no need to display the currently selected stack in the merging dialog, since there's also an option to abort the merge?

All very good questions, flop. I would like to see the answers too (I think I know some of the answers, but will like to hear what's said).

The "Stacks Management" window will be delivered with 1.07. Version 1.06 is the incoming one.

If you drag & drop a stack using the right mouse key, you can change the army assignment (beware anyway to the army-numbered stacked corps/units).

No, fortress, leaders, tanks, air squadrons, etc. etc are not counted. Have you read differently somewhere in the manual? Only corps are counted.

They are moved during the very last activation (last army).

Ok I will do so. ;)

I'm working 7/7 on WW1, doing everything: new features, bug fixing, testing, manuals, email support, forum support, public relations, some "administrative" stuff... so please forgive me if I'm not able to deliver things with the proper speed!

I didn't read differently, I just had some problems with bringing out a unit from the reserves of the German 6th army in Saarbourg, and since the stack had 3 corps and there was a fortress in the region, I assumed it was because of the stacking limit (it's a mountain region). However, I just tried again (I'm in the following phase now), and now there's no problem. I probably just screwed up somehow on the first try. :)

Ok, so I have to move them during the last activation, and not after the last activation? Thanks. :)

Thanks! No problem with the speed. I'm sure everyone here appreciates the work you're doing, I know I am. I hope I'm not causing you any undue stress, I wouldn't want you to work yourself to death. :)

Yes, sure. After the last activation, your "impulse" ends immediately. ;)

Absolutely not! :)
