At this stage, this is probably a fairly dumb question, but I'm going to raise it anyway .

I've scoured the manual which is excellent, but I cannot see an explanation of the Railroad markers which appear when a region changes hands and tracks are converted. I've never been 100% confident that I understand what the icon is showing. There seem to be two kinds of such markers - one displaying a national flag on top, with a smaller flag underneath. The second is an icon topped with a National flag and below, two grey left/right markers, these I have assumed to be railhead markers, denoting a track conversion.

What I have noticed is that when I 're-convert' track in a home region which I have retaken from the enemy, the icon does not seem to change. Of course there is the possibility, even the likelihood, that I have in some way incorrectly performed the conversion .

However, I would be most grateful for an explanation of the exact meaning of these icons, and wondered if such explanation should also be included in the manual.

The marker simply tells that the control of the area is different from that one of the railroads. I often re-converted railtracks of areas reconquered.

Ummm. I really must take another dose of my brain pills. So, the topmost flag is that of the nation controlling the area, and the lower flag, the nation currently owning the railway rights.

If that is right, then I assume that the icon with the little grey markers will be where an enemy region has been conquered and the rail track converted. Yes.

So, an example - A-H conquers a region in Serbia and converts the track - a marker with the railhead symbol will be placed. Serbia subsequently reoccupies the area - this would result in an icon with a Serb flag atop and an A-H flag below. Serbia then re-converts the track resulting in the marker disappearing.

If all of that is correct and I haven't totally confused you, I would say that I have had instances where this does not happen, tho' I'm not sure how I can provide examples.

I still think this would be a beneficial addition to the manual, where just about every other map symbol and marker is well explained.

If you click on the area and display the details on the bottom-left corner of the screen, you see some additional infos that should make things clearer.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the rail markers should only be there when the track has not been converted. That is when the track is different from that of the current owner of the region.

I'm also pretty sure that if the enemy has taken a region from you and converted the track, and if you take back that region the marker will appear. If you then convert the track back, the marker should disappear. I don't think I've ever noticed that not happening, but then again, I haven't played this game for very long.

Actually, looking at the info was what prompted my original query. I was confused with these icons and their meaning, and looked at the region info. I'm still at a loss. There seem to be regions, actually ones which have changed hands at least a couple of times, where I have re-converted the track but it continues to show enemy ownership.

I would also agree with the view in Flop's post.

Yes, Flop is right and explained things much better than me.

The rail marker is displayed every time the "control" of railtracks is different from the control of the area, whatever reason could have generated such difference.

OK got all that. However I still have a situation where I re-converted a track and the next turn both the icon and the info box is telling me that the track remains enemy controlled.

May I say again that I think it would be a good idea to explain this icon in the manual. I can't understand why it has not been included with all other icons and symbols. OK, I know I'm slow on the uptake , but it might be useful for other players too.
