Serious graphic bug

Sat Jan 17, 2009 1:22 am

Making a test run with 1.05f, yesterday, I had a weird graphic bug. 2 player grand campaign, CP, default options. In the Early August military phase, Germany selected, I hit Enter (although all her armies were blocked). As I pressed Enter, the log window started to move to the middle of the screen and the 2 event cards also, and they somehow got stuck with the mouse. The mouse hand got severely limited in movements, and I could not hit the Quit option to leave the game (old Ctrl-Alt_Del saved me). Unfortunately I did not make a pic. (and I was not drunk ;) )
Today I loaded again the same game. Italy is CP, and their armies are free to move, so I started to move the armies detachment in the Torino region, in preparation for a possible offensive against France.. While I was dragging one of them, the upper game menu started to drift to the middle of the map, following the mouse hand, and the log window + events cards went to the upper part of the map :mdr: :bonk:
Impossible to play, so, again, Ctrl-Alt-Del... :(
This time I made a pic - it is attached and also the savegame.

(PS1: I have 2 Gig RAM, and a ATI 2600 XT graphic card, with 1 Gig Ram, with the latest - 8.12 - drivers
PS2: At least some good news: the intro video now plays fine :neener :) .

I guess I will be back in a couple of months. Back to good old AACW.

Hmm frankly im smelling Pax here...hate to say it, WW1 has alot of potential but is the code so borked its not a viable game? Sort of like PR? BTW PT I swore id never buy another one of your games after Pax, but I took a chance on ACW.

Game was outstanding, as was the support, ou took a few steps back with WW1. I will not be buying any further AGEOD products until I see reviews etc.

Bonne Chance!

This graphic bug does not make savegame corrupted. Enjoing the harsh comments, I will give max priority to the fix.

Best regards,
Calvinus.

Number two advice: please some more respect for the job of the developer who works practically 7/7 for you. :siffle:

If the code was so messed up as you think, the patches wouldn't have been possible. Period.

Now I know the recent past is yet in anone's mind and bugs are adding to this sort of irrational fear but to look at the board, what I see since 2 weeks is the unavoidable bugs affecting computer wargames with xcomplex rules and the rare and very specific CTDs caused by some computer parts or combinations of.

@ Tamas. I personally have NO problems at all, graphic wise, with any of my installed games - all other AGEOD titles, TC2M, EUIII, Crusader Kings, Fantasy wars, Warhammer Mark of Chaos, NWN2, Mount and Blade, Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Invasions, etc, etc. You can not be suggesting that to play WW half of the player population should change his video card, are you ? :bonk:

@ Calvinus: The best form of respect that you, as a game developer, deserve from us is for us to buy your games (I did, both GI and WW1, and all other AGEOD games), and keep reporting bugs (that's what I did). You should seriously try to step back a little. This is your job, after all
I am sorry your game has bugs. Killing the messenger, though, is no solution.

Regards

@ Clovis: I am happy you are enjoying WW1. Other than that I fail to see the relevance of your post

This bug happens on pc's with nvidia cards too. But you are right. ATI cards are crap. :D Especially if build into notebooks.

Tamas is right. Franciscus support is welcome! And I'm sorry he felt my reply addressed to him.

What it's not welcome is instead the offensive posture of Sheytan. My job is not "smelling" and I absolutely don't like definitions like "borked". Next time I will censore similar posts. Such behavior is not welcome! Such people are not welcome! Mainly if, like I understood from his words, he even did not buy and played WW1!

First off, this is an erroneous statement. I have been playing it for weeks. So it is not "borked" as you say. It does have issues. But it gets better every patch. Personaly I will put up with a few issues in a game if the gaming experience is fun and enjoyable enough.

So,I have come to the conclusion that you are just trolling.

Cheers

Well said. The comment added no value to any conversation. I just don't get the small minority whose sole purpose seems to be to tear things down instead of help make them better. Frustration is fine and voicing frustration is fine. For example, the original post in this thread was about an problem, but as usual with Franciscus (and the great majority of posters), it was posted in a very constructive and valuable way that was designed to help the developers find and fix the issue.

Making useful comments is really not complicated, except for the fact that to make a useful comment, I guess you need to have something valuable to say.

OK, let's take a step back here. Sheytan's comments were harsh and uncalled for and lacked any constructive content, but I imagine that he might have had a frustrating day with the game (I don't quite see why anyone would post to a certain extent in the various WW1-forums on various topics/issues without owning the game), and in light of his other posts on these forums, I'm willing to chalk it up to a case of not thinking things well enough through before hitting the "submit reply"-button.

In general, constructive criticism is always welcome. I am utterly impressed by how players (Fransiscus being a very good example of it) and Calvinus/PT have gotten together to solve problems and address issues to the benefit of everyone. On the other hand, spewing out some harsh comments with no other aim than getting under the recipient's skin and provoking him is a sure-fire way of getting yourself disregarded around here.
