CTDs and endless battles

Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:08 pm

I have downloaded the game, installed it, installed the latest patch and went to play.

The tutorials went OK, when I finally discovered how to drag and drop. Then I started with bigger scenarios and even a couple of turns in the grand campaign. Now the problems started to occur. During the loading of scenarios, after battles (mine or the AI's) and during fazes, the game just crashed. At first, I believed it to be my antivirus, so I turned it off. This frankly didn't solve the problem. I started another grand campaign with France and save regularly. As of an hour or so of playing I haven't had a CTD, even though the game crashed when I tried to load the campaign for the first time.

Any ideas as to why this might be happening and can I do anything to help you guys discover the problem?

The second one, I believe already mentioned are the endless battles. The first one was on land and forced me to Alt-F4 the game. The second one was a battle in the Pacific between the AH and Germany, which is odd, since they should be allies (See the attachment). The first time they AH attacked, they retreated, but in the second fight, Germany can't decide what to do, again, forcing me to quit the game.

I hope this helped a bit and I'm sure I'm not the only one saying this, but you have an excellent game on your hands once it gets polished a bit.

Are you playing the two person or the four person campaign? It makes a difference as playing a single nation rather than playing a group of allies.

Yes, endless naval battles bug has been fixed for the 2-players campaign.

The 4-players campaign is yet to be fixed, being originally designed for the multiplayer engine only.

Hmm...Ups...

Yes, I'm playing the 4 player, as I have, even though it is hard to admit, difficulties managing 3 fronts. It's not the number of armies, but the titled Earth fact. I though that playing 4 player will get me adjusted (and it has helped) and then I'll be able to play 2 player.

Thank you for your answer.

I believe that, even putting aside the bugs, the 4-players campaign is absolutely a bad choice in single player mode... No coordination with the ally, no idea of what he plans, he thinks, he delivers... :D

That's true. The bloody Russian picked the plan not to attack the Germans. Luckily, the Germans picked the one, where they attack Russia, yet still they have a a decent force keeping my French forces back.

Anyhow, I'll try again tonight, see if it goes anywhere and then I'll change to 2 player.

BTW, any ideas on the CTDs?

The CTD upload load of the 4-players campaign? Did you load this scenario as 2nd job during the same game session?

For the more illiterate of us, could you explain same session in the computer context.

If I would have to guess, it means loading one scenario, ending it and then playing another. If this is the case, then YES, I have played a scenario and then loaded the campaign.

But this still doesn't explain the CTD's mid game, as after a battle or during a turn change.

You guessed right. Let's say the game runs much better if you start the Great Campaign with a fresh start-up of the game. There's something to be improved in memory management for such situations.
