How far??

Ive made it to Mar-Apr 1916 (4 turns today-to finish 2)(freeze ups and CTD). How far has anyone gotten who is having some problems running it?
Its like at the end of a turn, your saying to your self...........Please don't,don't- let me save first or hope the auto save kicks in

Now in May 1916 and only one CTD. Game has started too run better but I am not sure why. Ive turn alot of programs off and it was still sluggish, but then it suddenly later started running much smoother. Go figure!
