Can somebody give some advice on tactics.

- seems to be many choice (depending on breakthroughs) for types of combat and bombardment. What works best, please advice?

- how well does gas work and does it keep working. how does one protect against gas attacks?

Effect of gas is semi-randomized, and its effect (of a particular kind of gas) goes away after 3 use: simulation of the defenders adopting equipment and tactics to counter it.
