How Do I Get The Game To Run Faster?

The game used to run fine. I installed 1.06 and the movement phase suddenly tok forever. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled the game with 1.05f. Now the game runs just as slow as with 1.06. Are there some settings I can change to make the game run faster? My last turn has taken over 45 min to cycle through and it's still not finished.
